My daughter got into a car accident on Tuesday, about 1:30 am and totalled her truck. She swerved when a deer ran out into the road and ran head on into an embankment. Her face hit either the windshield or the steering weheel (she's not sure which), and she broke her nose. The trucks back end flipped up, also hitting the embankment and slammed back down. If she would have swerved the other way, she would have gone over a cliff and who knows what would have happened. She has whiplash and pulled muscles and strained ligaments in her back. It really could have been alot worse though. When I saw her truck, I wondered how she made it out with such minor injuries. It's a miracle.

Oh my gosh, thank goodness she's alright!!!!! It's always a scary decision of what to do when you are faced with the dilemma of hitting an animal or avoiding it. I'm really glad she's alright, Dena!!!

I am so sorry your daughter had an accident. I am glad she is ok, and wish her a speedy recovery. No worries about the truck it is replaceable, your daughter is not. May god bless her and give her a full recovery.

Thanks so much you two....I'm so very thankful that she's ok.

I am glad she did not hit the deer, boy that could have been an even worse accident. SHe is lucky and thank god she did not go over the cliff, that would have been horrors. I hope she gets well soon, is not to sore.....poor girl. Hopefully there will be no lasting effects either. I will pray for her and for you!

That's for sure Melissa. She feels like she's her mothers age now...lol
I just talked to her on the phone and she is in the process of moving into another apartment right now. The timing stinks.

Aw, that's terrible. I hope it won't cause any long term problems. I had a horseback riding accident that messed up my back for a while. Thank goodness for my chiropractor!

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about that! But she's blessed it wasn't worse! This is weird, but they just had a thing on the local news here last night about deer accidents and what to do and what not to do. They said DO NOT SWERVE! That going out of control and doing what sounds like happened here (thankfully not going over a cliff!) is worse than hitting the deer. You are supposed to brake and keep steering the way you were going (believe it or not). And do not put your highbeams on. That will only freeze the deer in their tracks more.

I saw a special on the Portland news last night and they said "don't veer for deer"...lol. That was a day late. It's the deer breeding season right now, and they said that they are particularly aggressive right now.

Do not veer but it is human nature to steer away from something and to not hit it. I wonder if anyone has ever followed that advice.

Scary Dena! I'm glad she's alright. She must have been wearing her seatbelt. I was at an accident last week where a dad and his two young kids were in an accident. NOBODY was wearing a seatbelt and he ran a stop sign. They were both about 5 years old. One of them just about died. Does that make you mad!!!
