Angela brought over a plate of fresh fried morelles (sp?) and Victor about lost his mind. I never saw him act like that and Mary wasn't much better, he begged, he sat pretty, he slammed himself into the down position..he even whimpered please plllllllllllleeeeaaaase please please until i finally gave him one. Do all dogs act like that about mushrooms? i had only had one once before, these were awesome. These dogs don't even act like that when we have pizza. This was weird

My Mums dog Barley is like that with Prawn Crackers from the Chinese Restaurant!!! They send him Bananas, and Gus is like it with any sort of Cheese!! I suppose their tastes are as varied as ours!!

That's darling! I wish you had a picture of that. Vic is such a handsome, irresistable beggar. They must have been very good for Mary to have dropped her dignity with such aplomb!

When I'm cooking I have three sets of eyes watching me, and two puddles of drool forming. Bimmer doesn't drool, thank goodness! They all assume the "Manners" sit, and the two girls will wiggle their butts on the floor when they think I'm not looking, inching closer and closer. Bimmer just makes sure I've seen him and then sits quietly, knowing that if anyone gets anything, he will get his bite first.

Vic hasn't been alive long enough have remembered them from before..unless it was a past life..i wondered if it was something about the mushrooms themselves..he never begs like THAT  ..Mary was standing there doing her foot to foot rocking thing until finally i showed both of the THE PLATE IS EMPTY SOORRRY..and put it away so i could have some peace. Granted they were very very good..

Renee, I get that same reaction some times from Kona. It's funny, another owner of the same breed just told Carl that they are very similar to Filas! I couldn't believe it; since becoming friends with you, Filas are entering my life in many ways. I told Max that maybe Shiva & Kharma have come into his life in another form as Kona.

Now there's an idea! We've toyed with the idea - wondering if Shiva would sniff them out since she's so food oriented. They grow, I think, around the roots of oak trees? We've got the perfect woods for them; dark loam soil with plenty of "organic" matter (nice way to say cow manure, lol), lots of oak trees, perfect climate for mushrooms . . .

I've never been able to find may in our old woods....my neighbor used to get a sack of them but wouldn't tell me where ! They love shade, rotten felled trees. They say here that when the may apples bloom, check for morels. Especially after a rain and a couple of sunny, warm days. They're soooooooooooooooo good !! We did get a lot of puff ball mushrooms....so good if fresh . Slice , bread and saute......yum!!

elm forest..look for fallen elms bubbat..that is what they thrive on. it helps to know their source of food, once you find that u will find them. I had one fellow vendor that showed up with a station wagon full and i bet they made a grand..they called their grown kids to bring up a second load. People bought them like hotcakes and they sold for 10 a pint.

Ah, that's good to know about the May apples. We have a whole spread of them down in the woodland. It's always good and moist there too, even when it's dry as desert sand everywhere else.
