Ok well, Musha has an appointment to get groomed on Saturday. I'm really nervous. She doesn't like to get baths and this is the main reason why I'm taking her to a pro. She is a chow mix and is very hairy and shedding like mad.

Do you think it's wise for me to stay when she gets groomed? I don't know if this will distract her of comfort her. Also, I don't know what kind of cut to tell them to give her. She has pretty long hair and the big lion head and bushy tail. Does anyone else have any advice? Pictures would be good too as far as haircut ideas. here are pics of musha to refresh your memory.

Thanks guys.

most people will tell you to never shave a chow. That fur keeps them cool in the summer as well as warm in the winter.
But I do a lot of chows in a lion cut where i work at. I think it looks embarassing, but all the owners love it. I always feel sorry for the dog.
most of the time dogs really act up if their owners stay while they are being groomed. so most groomers do not like it either because the do does not behave. We always dred it when we have an owner that wants to stay with the dog.

thank you for your reply. Everyone keeps telling me to do the lion cut but I don't think I will do that to her. I guess I'll just have her cleaned up and trimmed and brushed out really well. I've also heard that when chows are cut too short they seem to shed more because the hair just falls out instead of kinda clumping up a little in the undercoat and coming out in pieces. I just brushed her and it actually wasnt that bad. I guess they will put a muzzle on her. She is not going to be happy at all.

She will still look like a different dog with just a good bath and trim. she will look great!

actually we have many people who say they cannot brush their dog. they will warn us that we will need a muzzle....
but its a rare occasion that they act up. The dogs are always better for the groomer than their mommy. its because they are in a strange environment and its intimidating.

dont worry! I bet they will not have any problem out of her.

Personally, as a groomer, I prefer that the owner doesn't stay, because in my experience, most animals will strain and act ridiculous to get to their owner, or not hold still if you are right there.
Talk to the groomer you will be taking her to, though. Its really up to him / her. I hope Musha's first experience is a good one, because that will make or break her for it.

EDIT:
I agree with Rabbits on the shaving thing, I wouldn't do it. Ask for a bath, brush and blow out instead, She'll look amazing afterward, and if she likes to be brushed, she'll LOVE it.

Ok i will leave her with the groomer. I won't stay. She was good for the vet so I'm sure she'll be good for the groomer. Thank you so much for your input. I really really appreciate it. :)

Musha did great!!! Oh she looks so pretty, not a big difference, she was just trimmed and shaped. her backside came out beautiful!!! And her tail is fluffy and gorgeous. She is also very shiny. She knows she's pretty. I'll try and get a better picture but heres one for now..

oh! also, the groomer said she's pure chow. Of course i will never know for sure, and it doesnt matter to me what she is, but I thought it was intertesting. I'm watching "Groomer Has It" now and they are all grooming chows. And Mushas twin is on. I think the groomer may be right.
