Interesting and imaginative? Hmmm... I mean, I like a lot of movies that are kind of under-the-radar and unique, but sometimes they can be depressing, LOL. I tend to relate to "real life" movies about just humans being human. Like, The Green Mile and Road to Perdition and probably two of my favorite movies.
But I watched American Beauty (for the first time the other night, it came out in 1999) and it was super different. Really kinda "weird" and very different, but I liked it. Great acting. Kevin Spacey is almost always great though, imo. And critically, Pay it Forward did not get rave reviews but it's one of my favorites too since it came out. The Life of David Gale was another of his that I watched last week and loved.
I haven't been into a ton of recent movies - I tend to catch up on older movies that I've never seen or were never very popular but have great acting. I'm not a huge action/adventure fan, only in certain cases. It has to have a really good storyline to back it up.
I'm not sure if these help, or are even what you're looking for, lol.
