When I was in Indiana, it seemed like EVERYONE had a Goldendoodle, or knew someone who did. I'm pretty sure I saw more Goldendoodles than I did actual Golden Retrievers or Poodles. Beyond that, there was actually quite a lot of diversity. Retrievers, Terriers, Pointers, Setters, Spaniels, Herders, Toys, the list goes on.
In shelters, there were typically Pit Bulls, generic Lab type mixes, and generic "farm dog" mixes (Cattle Dogs, Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, etc.).
Here, however, I feel like the most popular "common" breed of dog are Labradors and Chihuahuas. And if it isn't a Labrador or Chihuahua, it is a mix of them. Or a Pit Bull. And instead of there being generic farm dog mixes in shelters, there are generic hunting dog mixes (generally Cur/Catahoula type dogs). It is definitely odd for me to see so many hound-type dogs instead of so many herding-type dogs. Corgis are actually rare down here.
