What do you guys use. Teagan and pup, pup will be spending about 10 days in central BC. And heart worms are a slight concern, although not that intense in the Okanagan. I am not too worried about Teagan as she has thick fur, but pup, pup is smooth coated. I would really rather not load them with anything tropical or chemical so I am thinking loading them up with mosquito repellent when they go outside. I am looking for something as natural as possible.

It works well (we go to the park around here that has stale water and gets really bad ones)

But if you take a little the active ingredients are Lemongrass Oil 4%; Cinnamon Oil 1%; Sesame Oil 1%; Castor Oil 0.5%. Inert Ingredients: Purified Water 93.5%.

so while it works really well, it doesn't seem that it would be too hard to make!

Smells good too!

If you're going to be in a heartworm area I would have them on heartworm prevention, and not trust mosquito repellant on its own (because in my personal experience, bug repellant works so-so at best).

Ditto this. I'm currently using Heartgurd for prevention.

Exactly this. For the bites themselves, though, I have had some luck with Advantix. Not 100%, but it does some good.

Oh yea, in case it needs to be said (again lol) I would totally, first and primarily, get a flea/tick treatment (k9 advantix is a good one) and heartworm treatment

the stuff I use is a great spritz for some extra umph to just repel all flying gross things but it is nowhere near the protection needed for the real outdoors.. we use it at our city park.

You can have aromatherapy. For fleas and ticks, mix 15-20 drops of any of following essential oils with a base oil and spray on your dog daily.

* For fleas – citronella, peppermint, lemon, clary sage
* For ticks – lavender, myrrh, bay, geranium
