Tips is driving me insane! He's an awesome puppy, 3 months and no accident for almost a week now, he already knows sit and stay (he's not getting down quite yet, but I repeat it like 20 times a day), he always comes when I call him, and he's just the cutest thing in the world (don't tell Boris)... But I'm getting really tired of his 6.30am barking.

I guess it's amusing and at least I know my husband won't sleep in too long and be late at work, but ugh. He has no problem with his crate all day, but in the morning he just doesn't want to be in there. If we let him out to pee and put him back in, he will bark and cry for one hour or more. He has a thing for the chairs and the shelves in the room so we can't leave him without supervision yet, and I'm not calling it a victory on housetraining either, so there's not much choice... But does someone have a suggestion to get him to stop that tantum in the morning? We always go to bed late on Fridays and the week end is just plain horrible because of him.

I'd rather try anything than just suck it up for a few months before he's reliable enough to be free at night, lol.

Raika barks in the morning too. Usually anywhere from around 6:15 to 7:30 depending on how late she was up the night before. Tonight she's been sleeping a lot I think because of the shot at the vet today so hopefully she won't be up super early tomorrow!
I don't have any advice on how to stop the barking...just letting you know you're not alone. Maybe as he gets older it will get better? I hope!!

My pup sleeps in my room, which is pretty much puppyproof so no crate. He does wake up at six however and will play and chew by himself while I try to snatch a few more moments sleep. Eventually he want to play with my kelpie though (who sleeps on my bed) and we ALL get up. Lol, I should move them to another room but i just love them so much. It is a huge bummer in the mornings though.

This is put for simply as a method that has worked for me with hundreds of puppies, and also for anyone to whom I suggested it.

It is simple. Get a spray bottle and fill it with water. Set it on JET or STREAM. When puppy barks spritz him/her and yell QUIET at the same time the water hits the pup. Do it as much as it takes to quiet the dog. Don't worry---the pup can be towel dried off.

One other thing that works well.......take an empty soda can, fill it with some pennies then tape over the opening. When the puppy starts barking, shake the can vigorously and then toss it at the crate door. NO, it is not cruel, and it does work. I have 20+ dogs here that I have raised since birth, and when I put them in their crates there is only one psycho that won't shut up. I would have to kill her to shut her up, so I let it slid. Eventually her voice gives out anyway, and by then I am out the door and GONE!!!!!!!

Actually the spray bottle is about the only thing that works with Boris, lol. Tips likes it unfortunately... He's a water freak.

I'll try the can thing, I've heard of it but never got to try it. Thanks!

The can worked with my puppy. Endless barking and barking....I tried teaching him to "hush" through time-outs etc. and nothing worked until one day I decided that if he was going to make me listen to all this nonsense I would do the same back. It took one day of telling him to "hush" when he was barking and if he did not comply then I would shake the can and say "hush" again. He gets it now and there is peace!! LOL!

Just make sure you get DIET soda. Rofl. Actually if you could get some Slim Fast, the cans are much, much, much sturdier than the cheap aluminum cans that soda comes in. And the Slim Fast tastes GOOOOODD too! Usually about 5 pennies is enough to get a good rattling sound out of it.

Well I tried. He's looking at me with an interested look on his face - 'what is it?'.

Sigh. That **** dog is too stubborn, lol.

No that you want to hear this first thing in the morning... An air horn is quite effective.

I couldnt use the pennies in can method because I condition all my dogs to like loud raucous awful noises ( like bagpipes). Now if I shake a can full of pennies they prick up like "wheres the food,?"

Pups like young kids like to get up and start the day.!! Some folks cover the crate at night to make it more like a den..I remember when I bred, the summer pups were up soooooooo early, whereas the winter pups slept later with the sunrise. Either way, when you hear 8 to 10 pups ready to start the day ( at 4 to 5 weeks ) it means up and at 'em....mouths to feed, papers to pick up, poops to scoop etc etc.
