Why not until school starts? Most people dig the idea of having one when schools out...? (just curious, here)

And to add, I never brush my dogs teeth... They get fed raw, so the bone does a good job keeping them clean.

What would be the chances of you waiting until next summer?

You could still do it even if you're in school. There are plenty of people with full-time jobs who get puppies. But I would wait until you've been in school for a while so you can get a feel for how the year will go... you might be so loaded with homework every night or something that you'll realize you just wouldn't have the time for a dog.

I got Lucy like 2 months before I got out of school... and we managed just fine, although I will say Lucy was a very easy puppy so that might be why it worked. I can't imagine if we would have gotten Juno during the school year, I just don't think we could have done it.

Normally I don't suggest that people get pets close to the holidays, but if you did get your dog near your winter break it would give you some time to get settled in.

Getting one that's a little older than a baby puppy will help, too.

From what you've posted , I don't think you are ready . Emotionally or financially . I feel with young teens it should be the family's decision and choice . I researched and found a Golden was the breed my Dad needed when our Irish Setter died . But I knew he was a family dog as I was only 13. He was my buddy until I moved on to college . How I missed him !
