Thanks guys so much. ((Hugs))

Right now the doctors are calling it a storage disease or something like that. They think it has to do with his spinal column somehow. We decided not to take him to Missouri to get the spinal tap done because it's not going to really change anything. It'd just be more stress on him and it'd only help us know why he's dying not to help him get better. We don't see a point and we can't keep him like this.

Mom's going to pick up Emily now and we told the breeders our decision and they agree. We really can't think of a single other thing we could've done differently. It's just hard knowing you can't help him.

You know, as does everyone, that you have done your very best for little Hiro. There really isn't anything more that you could have done and I agree that the tap would likely have meant more stress and pain with the same result.
This is just so unfair for all of you. (((((((hugs)))))))

Major hugs. You were the right family to have him for his short life. You did everything you could to give him a fighting chance. You will see him again.

I'm so sorry to hear this. It's truly heartbreaking :(

I'm glad he had you and your family for his short life, I don't think many people would have tried nearly as hard as you did to save him.

I am so sorry :(

You did everything you could for him, and Hiro was lucky to be surrounded by so much love in his short life.

I am so terribly sorry for everyone involved and especially for baby Hiro. You certainly gave him the love he needed and all the care he could have hoped for. ((((((HUGS and HUGS and HUGS)))))))) This is just tragic.

Oh, gods, Laurelin. . . . . Share (((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))) with Emily . . . Hiro . . . poor little wee puppy . . . . but what a happy short life you gave him - and he gave all of that back to you all.

Think of him racing around across the Bridge, like the wind, running around with Wally, while Harvey races after them, with both eyes wide open :) Tell him if he needs a place to snuggle, Buffy is big and warm :)

I had been saving this little piece ever since I saw the video of Hiro dashing delightedly around... I was reminded of it when you first posted that he wasn't quite "right." I bookmarked it in case I ever needed to share it with you.

It is from Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soup. In this story, an elderly ACD was put to sleep in their home because he was dying of cancer. His family consisted of two adults and a four-year-old named Shane.

After the dog was gently laid to sleep, the vet began speculating with the adults as to why animal lives are shorter than human lives.
To quote:

"Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me - I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, "Everybody is born so they can learn how to live a good life - like loving everybody and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, animals already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.""

If ever an animal was born with such a good nature, loving attitude and obviously cheerful aura, it is definitely Hiro. May he rest in peace and keep all our pets that are waiting for us happily attacked by his puppy antics and play.

Thinking of you all....

Thanks everyone.

He really was acting lethargic a while and Dad was petting him. We were waiting for Em to come home. Watching her with him was so heartbreaking. But he's doing fairly well now- he's eaten a bit and has been playing. So instead of rushing things we're going to wait until the morning and then Em and dad are taking him in. She wants to be there with him tomorrow. I'm not really surprised, she's a strong person. So we're loving him and giving him lots of cookies tonight.

God, I'm just blubbering right now. How old is Em? I'm heartsick for all of you... I just can't believe that you're having to face this.

Again, I'm so sorry and please give Em and little Hiro a huge hug from all of us here.:(

Emily is 15. It's harder on me to think of her rather than him. I know we're doing the right thing as far as he is concerned but I don't know what's best for her.
