mites? what are they called?

what are those things (mites) called that infests a dog's and puppy's body. my sister's dog has something because on the edge of his ear[flap] theres like a crusty thing (probably from some kind of mites or maybe dried scabby skin) and i remember from a while ago that they were called something, but i cant remember.

There are a couple times of mange.

There is sarcoptic mange and demodectic mange.

Demodex mites are also known as demodectic mange, red mange. I can't recall any other 'known' names for them. They are a real bugger to get rid of, I am going through the second bout of them with my dog, Buddy.

Sarcoptic mange I admit, I do not know much about other than the fact that is can be transfered to cats and humans, while demodex mites can not as they thrive in the dogs hair/fur.

Good luck to your sister, I hope it's not a serious case.

oh yeah it maybe be helpful to mention that her dog is currently nursing her puppies. theyre about 4 weeks and all of the puppies and the mother have them. they seem to scratch just their sides and stomach just in front of their hind legs and their ears.

also, i was shown this ( http://www.petsbestrx.com/mange/ ) does anyone have any experience with these and do they work? my sister is thinking about buying a pack.
