My name is vish & i have a 8 year old staffordshire bull terrier called toby. In january this year i sent my dog to the groomers and later that day recieved a call saying that they had "accidently" lost him. I was furious and tried my best to find him, i went out day and night even leaving my final year uni exams because my dog is a family member and i would do anything for my family.

I put 1000's of posters out, newspaper ads, batersea, rspca everything you can name i did it. even got fined from the council for puting up so many posters. the groomers didn't really help to much which pissed me off and thats why im taking em to court. The police are just as bad who do not give a crap bout lost pets cos it just means more paper work for them.

Anyway i think im going on a bit, but last month and 2 and a half months a found my dog who was living on the streets in a shed at the back of this huys house who told me that my dog sometimes came into his garden but whenever we got their he was gone. so we started putting food out and hoping that he starts coming on a regular basis. we wernt however sure that it was our dog but decided even if it wasn't at least we could try to reunite it with his owners.

anyway 1 day we got a picture message from the guy and it was our dog we got their as quick as we could but he had gone, then his next door neighbour told us that their is a dog living at the back of his abandoned shed. we got their and their he was very distressed and scarred but recognised us straight away.

He had sever wieght loss, from 28kg he went down to 7kg. but im glad to say that we have brought him back to his normall weight and health.

Heres some pics, the top one is of when i found him after 2 months. and the bottom 1 is of him now.

Bin feeding him 4 times a day and hes also on special supplements from the vet. Hes making a good recovery & soon he'l b back to normal. just shows his wil to live wat a champ.

 i hope your groomer is boiled in oil and skinned alive.and then tarred and feathered!!!!! .i can't send enough sympathy to you this just breaks my heart...i hope u sue for every living cent they ever earned..and thank the heavens above that you found your dog in time.and i hope blessing are heaped upon the head of the people that did put food out for you dog. I would go absolutely insane if that were my Victor or Mary..the only just punishment would be to let the groomer starve until they too looked like that. I am so so so so so sorry for you and your dog!

Bless his little Toby heart! That is awful, I'd make sure I told everyone I knew never to go to that groomer and try to run them out of business, that is horrible, I'm so glad he's ok now.

How long did it take for Toby to gain the weight back..and is there any long term physical effects from being so starved? I have read many war stories that included prison camps where people looked just like that..they seemed to recover phsycially and go on to long lives.. i am amazed because to look like that you would think there would be organ damage.
sorry i reread your post and you already told me the answer to my question..2 months to gain the weight. How is he emotionally? Victor was very very thin when i got him and hyper.and couldn't focus on anything but for a few seconds...but he did not know me. I know most of that was the truama of being lost. I wondered how your dog behaved after he began feeling better..

It took him a month to put all the weight back on, wen we lost him he was 28kg and wen we found him he was between 6 & 8 kg. but hes now bak to 28kg is normal weight.

wen we found him i got him chekd str8 away from the vets and they did blood tests and thank god they came up clean. he was coverd in fleas and ticks which they removed.

wen we approached him at the shed ware he was found he didnt respond str8 away was a bit hesitant because their were lots of strangers about but after a few minutes he recognized us and came over

wen we got him home he had no life in him but still had enuf energy from sum ware to run up and down the house to look around and he felt secure again.

at first he would eat everything within sec because he probably thought he mite go hungry again, felt really sorry for him. but we were feeding him 4 times a day with a mixture of hills puppy food and adult food because puppy food had the right vitamines and stuff in it to get him back to his normal weight.

he also went bold cos hair is protien and cos he never had any he lost all is hair but its grown bak nicely just bin puting oil and stuff in it to make sure it comes bak healthy.

but his behaviour hasn't changed that much hes still the same as wen he got lost, and he rememberd every1 str8 away.

My son had a kitten that disapeared and was missing for 8 days..she had gone down the street and into a house where a man had committed suicide. Somehow she was locked in. We had put up signs and looked everywhere. When the people that were going to sell the house went back in they found her..she was very very thin..they called us because they saw the sign on the post at the end of the street. She horded food for a long time after that..even tho her bowl was full she hid pieces of it. I have read that people that have been starved do the same thing. She also to this day will panick if left in a room alone with the door shut. That is why i was wondering. Hugs to your dog for me and kisses in his dear ears..that was a horrible experience for all of you.

Vish, I'm so happy you found Toby again and were able to nurse him back to good health. He looks so at peace sleeping in his dogbed. Doggie & kitty hugs and kisses to you both.

Poor baby! I am not sure if I would have been able to control my temper at those groomers. You should sue the ever living crap out of them. I would. How do they "lose" a dog like that? He should have been kept up with at all times. I would tell EVERYONE not to go there because of what happened, I would post it on the Better Business Bureau, and it is not slander since you have what happened to back it up. Where was this place? I want to make sure that I never give them any business.

I can't stop thinking about this, I am so mad that they had the audacity to brush you off like it was nothing.

You really should try to sue them for your pain and suffering (which I can imagine was unbearable). They needlessly caused an animal to suffer (and you to suffer) because of their irresponsibilty. Those pictures enough should tug on the heart strings of a Judge or Jury. If I was on the Jury you would be getting the compensation you were asking for.

I hope when u sue..that they take into consideration your lost semester..that is a valuable piece of time to lose..let alone have to pay for twice. I believe u made the right decision..taking it off to search because u wouldn't have been able to concentrate anyway no matter what the outcome would have been....Please let us know how the proceedings go..i will be rooting for you all the way.

there was a woman on one of the judge shows that had an italian greyhound she left at a doggy daycare..the dog broke it's leg when it jumped off a desk..the daycare was held responsible for the thousand dollar vet bill..if they won..i am sure yours will sail thru..i just hope u get compensated for your lost time at school. and then i hope the judge put's the person's head on a poke outside the door..kisses to your love..tell him i am so sorry too for all his suffering.
