I know a couple members on here have them,
I'd love to see some pics & hear stories about them!!! :DMy parents have 3... and I had a couple questions

Can you trust yours offleash?
I was trying to help my Dad train Doc. He likes to slip his collar, and run around like a mad man before coming back... I haven't made very much progress...

Do yours have a "hound smell"?
They are on Canidae and use decent shampoo. Reba, Mom's short hair seems to get a hound smell pretty often. yuck :p

Is yours okay with nails being trimmed?
Its a huge ordeal for me to clip any of them. And we've been handling the puppy's feet & clipping nails since he was about a week old... he acts just like his Dad! who goes into a 'crocodile roll' and acts insane. All of them are fine with us handling their feet and nails, but if you get the clippers out they aren't. Reba will let me clip hers, only if I cover her eyes. Their nails seem to get really long really fast... is that normal?

How are they socially? They're friendly, but not too crazy about other people petting them much. I mean, they really like the attention at first, but then they're like "okay I don't know you... your hands might be dirty... that's enough" (LoL)

Barky Breed?

and finally... do yours snore??? LOL All three of these guys do! yikes!

Hi! I have a black and tan smooth named Hula! She'll be 2 in August (I can't believe she will be TWO! already).

Can you trust yours offleash?
Yes! She's soooo good offleash. I only let her offleash in our yard though.

Do yours have a "hound smell"?
I dont think so...LoL I dont really know what a hound smell is, but she doesn't stink or anything.

Is yours okay with nails being trimmed?
Yes, but I started touching her feet and trimming her nails as soon as I got her.

How are they socially?
Hula's pretty shy around new people and people she doesn't see often. She's also extremely timid anywhere other than home. When it comes to other (small) dogs, she's not shy at all. I dont know about big dogs, as most of our family/friends have small dogs and the only places she's been around big dogs she was scared anyway.

Barky Breed?
She is at times! She mostly only barks when Sisco (Shih Tzu) is barking though.

and finally... do yours snore???
I've never heard her snore. Sisco does though...

And here are some pictures!

puppylove...omg what a cutie. I love the dapples.

Can you trust yours offleash?

Umm not sure. She does good at dog parks with recalls, but outside of that I never tried offleash.

Do yours have a "hound smell"?
She's on Canidae and we use decent shampoo as well, but no smells.

Is yours okay with nails being trimmed?
She scream out bloody murder and will not let you. Plus black nails and squirmy dog, too much too risk. We have to go to the groomers to get them done. Hers grow really fast too.

How are they socially?
She barks at people first, but she's friendly with them, but then she's like whatever nd goes about her business.

Barky Breed?
Just when she meets people, but she's not OMG STFU already yappy thing. But she does bark every once in a while.

and finally... do yours snore???
Nope.

I think I am queen of the dachshunds with my total 7 dachshunds, 4 being miniatures. My four miniatures are a "Family". Harry is the father, Jannah is the mother, and Reese and Bob are both their offspring.

First there is Harrison Hans "Harry" (Miniature red smooth coated) who turns 12 in July. I can trust him off leash as long as I have a tennis ball. He doesn't go far, unless of course I throw it! He actually got out of our yard years ago when we were gone..and we came back and he was sitting in the front yard with a basketball. We always say its the basketball that saved him from getting hit by a car, or lost forever!! I don't notice any hound smell....I have had a dachshund since it I was 2 years old. Though, my dogs don't smell to me..but I was around a coworker of my mom's dogs and they smelled...like dog. So, I don't know if its my dogs diet that make them smell better. Harry doesn't mind his nails being trimmed at all. Harry is fine at the dog park and around other dogs. All he cares about is fetching. If a big dog comes up to him, he just ignores that dog and lets it smell him and try and play with him. Harry does bark, but its only at his fetch toy. He will be in the backyard, looking at his toy and barking at it. And no, he doesn't snore. My overweight standard dachshund snores though, but thats because shes overweight. She has lost a lot of weight though, and doesn't do it like she used to. Before it was almost a sleep apnia type of snore.

Then there is Jannah (Miniature red smooth coated). She is 4. I cannot trust her off leash at all. She will run off and chase after things. She has become quite a dog aggressive dog, and will also try and bite new people. Its horrible! Our first dachshund was like that too, and she was a show dog. She doesn't smell either, and she is definitely not strange dog social! Jannah LOVES to bark! She HATES getting her nails trimmed.

Then there is Reese (miniature red smooth coated) who will be 3 in September. She BARKS LIKE CRAZY! She is horrible!! I also can' trust her off leash, never tired though..but I think she would be just like her mother, Jannah and would wander off, and chase cats. She is a very submissive dog around new people and new dogs..but would never bite. so I guess I could say she is dog social. She doesn't mind getting her nails trimmed.

And lastly, Bob (Miniature red smooth coated) who will also be 3 in September. He barks the worst of ALL my dogs! He is a non stop barker. He also would not be good off leash except in a fenced in area. He barks at strange dogs, did that the entire time at the dog park when we went...but I think he would do fine. Hes not an aggressive dog. He HATES getting his nails trimmed, just like his mother.

and when he was a puppy

What you forgot to ask..are they diggers!!! YES!! My dachshunds are horrible diggers, and dig up the entire yard. They love digging! Most dachshunds I know love digging, and burrowing..since well, thats what they were bred to do!

Well, thats one thing my parents 3 don't do (yet lol) is digging. Jannah sounds very much like my Mom's Reba lol.
Reba used to bark at, and act very scary towards kids, but the other day my friend and I were walking them and a girl asked if she could pet them. I hung back, and let my friend have the puppy approach - all happy, wiggly puppy butt like. Reba barked once or twice, I told her hush, and then she pullled toward the girl, wanting to be petted as well. Progress! :p

How are yours with kids?

I'm trying to find pics of them...

Harry is wonderful with kids! I have had him since I was 7, so he was raised with me as a kid.

Jannah doesn't like kids, but I don't think she would bite them. And Reese and Bob are semi scared of kids, but they also would not bite a kid.

Bjorn (All around mutt..lol) never liked kids, and would bark at them and run away and hide. At the dog park a couple weeks ago there were three little girls (10,7,and 3) and I let them pet him (And he was not happy), and the girls were sitting next to me and Bjorn while I was talking to their uncle about Great Danes and as I look at Bjorn, hes SITTING on her lap..which is a first. And then later on that day he let a little girl hold him. I was SHOCKED!!
