I'd love to hear from whoever has owned one before, or has met one. There doesn't seem to be much info about them on here. Are they affectionate? Temperamental? Nippy? etc.

We had a little dog that we rescued from an abusive situation, Sparky, and he was definitely mostly, if not all min pin, but he had a natural tail and ears. He was the SWEETEST dog, but was VERY skittish, and fearful. Probably from his past, but may have had something to do with his breed, I really don't know. He was also yappy, but not unreasonably so. He would bark when people or dogs came in the yard, etc, and would stop when they left, or he realized it was okay. Other than that, I don't think there was anything negative about him. He was good with other dogs, very obedient, and loooooooved to be a little cuddle bug. :)

I only know two min pins and one min pin mix who has a very min pin personality.

I'm not sure what's typical of the breed, but three I know are AWESOME little dogs. They're friendly, seem to be very social and like everyone, are quiet cuddly, but active and very intelligent. One is kind of yappy if she's put into a crate or wants something, the other two are very quiet. I'd definitely consider getting one someday, I think they'd make good little dog sport dogs.

I'm also not sure about health problems, but the three I know don't have any issues. Two are young, but one is 13 and looks and acts like any 5 year old dog, aside from slight greying.

One of my friends has a min pin. He's got a lot of personality in such a little body. He's very active and energetic.

We have a min pin in the family.. his name is Marley

He is about 2 pounds on a good day and is the tiniest dog I've ever met lol but I don't think thats normal

Personally, the MAJORITY of min pins aren't my thing. I don't like the way they hop lol and it seems they do love to hop (like bounce on their hind legs) but they are still great little dogs!

as usual, badly trained min pins are a nightmare.. but that's any breed really (yappy, bitey etc..)

but Marley overall is a very good dog! energetic, friendly, smart, he is very outgoing and likes to travel/go EVERYWHERE

I think they are a great choice for someone who loves terriers and loves the tiny package min pin come in lol

oh and in case anyone ever messes with him, check out Marleys best friend lol

Min pins were our third choice when we were first looking into a toy dog (second and first being Chinese Cresteds and Papillons respectively). We wanted something small but with a lot of energy and spunk. Min pins DEFINITELY have that.

They're very very terrier in personality unlike the papillons which was a lot of why we ended up with paps. They are probably the most energetic of the toy breeds as well, based on the ones that we met. They can be very very very very high energy dogs. They are fast and athletic, outgoing usually, can be very vocal from what I've noticed.

All in all good dogs, but really weren't the best fit for me. I like my dogs active but most the min pins we met were just too... fidgety (?) for me. Even the well bred ones we met seemed to never settle down.

They are fidgety, lol. They're always moving from one foot to another, the only time I see them settle is in someone's lap ;)

I've not met very many, but the ones I have met were split between "omg I love this dog and want to take it home" and "holy sh*t how do people live with these things?!"
:lol-sign: There's not been much middle ground with any that I have met. Not sure if it has to do with breeding, how they were raised, or just individual personalities.

lol i have a min pin his name is argo i am used to terriers i had a westie before that and he is more terrier then my westie. he is a very loving dog though he loves to snuggle and his nick name is wart cause he needs to be near me most of the time. he definatly is a one person dog though he pretty much ignores everyone else. and he is very active and into everything. when he was a puppy he about drove me crazy with his curiosity and he loved to shred paper that seems like a breed trade mark. they all love to shred paper if you want a min pin you better have a sense of humour and alot of patience they need alot of socialization.
they are a bundle of nervious energy though when he sleeps with me at night and if i even sneeze and startle him he will jump up and start barking. i am not sure i will ever get another one but they do sort of grow on you so who knows.

My best friend has 4.. :yikes: Yes, FOUR.. and they are good dogs, but definitely not for me. They bark NON stop, all the time.. I mean at nothing, something, everything. CONSTANT barking. I can't handle visiting their house.. ;)

They are loving, and funny personalities. They also do the HOP thing others have said, they get HIGH like countertop high.. :lol-sign: I mean those babies can hop hop hop...

Now, to be fair, we saved a "Min Pin" from a Scamps pet store (a very bad bad byb/puppy mill petshop here, now shut down, thankfully) i say "Min Pin" because he was bigger then the small one's i see more commonly and was all red, also not as common, but thats what they said, anyway. He was a GOOD dog. We loved him. Never was barky. Trained quickly. SO loving. But.. He was UBER hoppy too, should have named him Tigger. LOL.. And SO full of energy, but really a good dog, NOTHING like my best friends.

So if you like that in a pup, lots of noise, energy and hop, you are all set.. :p

They hop, they yip, they hop, they yip, they hop, they yip.... at least that is my experience. I think they are one of those breeds...the you love them or you.....don't....breeds.

Cute little stinkers though.

I think Min Pins are really cool looking dogs. I've only met a few in my lifetime, I guess they're not common around here.

I just love their structure, they are so athletic looking and sleek.

I don't really know enough about them, but from your guys descriptions, I'm not sure they'd be a good fit for me. I can handle high energy and terrier, but not TOO much of both, LOL. Like, Jackson has a good balance. I love his spunk and terrierness, but he's not overbearing, and jumpy and bouncy, etc.

Maybe a dumb question, but are their ears cropped, or do they naturally stand up?

Some are cropped (like the one you posted). I have seen some with natural erect ears though too. The breed standard allows for either cropped or naturally erect ears. It seems most show min pins are cropped.

Here's some natural eared min pins: Palana Kennels ~ Miniature Pinschers ~ Australia

ETA: Whoever said nervous energy really summed it up for me. That is exactly what their type of energy is like to me.

Yea, this. That's been my experience with them, too.

I have never met one I like. I find them to be snappy, aggressive and nasty.

I have come close to drop kicking a friend of mines min pin a few times. I have never met a more hateful animal. She jumped into MY car and attacked me the other day. He is lucky that all I did was hurl her out the car.
