We dodged the bullet in our area (south of St. Louis) - only had really strong straight line winds and no power for about six hours. Everyone else okay after the storms?

Yeah, we were lucky-no damage at out house. My stepdad is a farmer and part of the roof of his equipment she'd was blown off and a lot of the corn that had not been harvested yet is knocked down. The whole thing was really scary though. IDK what's up with this weather-last week 7 inches of snow, this week severe thunderstorms.

Pretty good storm, light hail and some good winds but nothing else! I haven't been around the town yet but I'm sure people lost some trees but luckily we didn't get any of the scary scary weather.

The high winds were pretty scary last night! I haven't seen much damage around here though. Crossbone was shaking he was so scared (during storms he always calmly sits in the safest part of the house) but this was different. We already had an air mattress set up in the basement so we camped out there for the night. As soon as I put Crossbone on the bed in the basement he curled up, big sigh and didn't move all night! lol

A mess here but nothing major. I have plenty of clean up to do. My parents had a few branches but nothing big, I had big limbs. More is down this morning on top of everything I had yesterday. Have to figure out what to do about the carport that tried to take off... that would not be fun to have take off and fly around.

The county is declared a disaster area though. Three different tornadoes were confirmed to touch down here. The worst hit is ten minutes to the north. It's very strange. The photos are eerie. They evacuated the entire town and asked people not to go there to help, emergency crews are the only ones there right now cleaning up the roads... they're having a town meeting this evening and then are going to allow home owners to go back in, but only to view their homes and survey for damage. Tomorrow morning they're going to start letting contractors in, no word on when people will actually be allowed to move back into their homes, if they have a home to move back into.

Yikes! I am so fearful of this happening. Glad you are ok, even though your house took a beating:(

Yesterday here in STL, there were some crazy pop up storms around, but where I am we only got a tiny bit of rain that was kind of blown out of the clouds. It was super crazy windy all day and night but otherwise beautiful.

I dont know how to share FB videos but I have a couple of us playing outside and you can see the crazy winds.

Fence is down in multiple places but that's all I've seen so far. Haven't been able to make it out to the new house yet though!

The wind was just throwing rain around in sheets. It was bad. Only lost power twice for short times but I was ready to run to basement for a while.

My folks have been without power since yesterday, but I got off lucky. My power only blinked a couple of times and the worse that happened was some small downed branches in the yard. No hail and no trees on my car or through my roof. I did go and sit in the bathroom during the worst of it, but it blew over fairly quickly.

Some buildings in town had a lot of damage, and I'd say about half the schools were closed today for repairs.

Just fine. The surrounding area not so much, but are the only house on our street with power. We're on the corner and ended up on a different power grid, so we got super lucky. 5 houses down the entire road is blocked by a giant tree that got torn apart. Most of the city seems to not have power.

From everything I saw when I got home and Sizzle's post, everything in Des Moines was fine. *I* was coming back from the Malinois IPO nationals in Illinois though. That was quite the wind and rain! We pulled over under an underpass for a while to wait it out.

I live in AZ now, but my hometown was one of the towns hit. Thankfully all family/friends made it through with very minor damage.

glad everyone is ok but sorry your house is not, Frostfell. Despite years of living in Oklahoma tornadoes still scare the crap out of me. And weird time to have a tornado too. Do y'all usually have them in the spring like we do?

Tornadoes are becoming more and more a threat outside of tornado season:( We had one a couple years ago here in STL on new years eve (another one of those freaky 70+ degree days like it shouldnt be).

It is out of tornado season, but unfortunately they really can just happen at any time. And it seems the non-tornado season ones are the most destructive. I read in an article there were 250-some tornado warnings in Illinois since 1986 and more than half of them were from yesterday...

We were driving home from shopping in the next town over and things got CRAZY! Tree branches falling out of the sky, power lines sparking and falling, cars stopping in the road out of fear of moving forward....just....wow.

A tree fell just as we were passing....it actually TOUCHED the side of my van where my son was sitting........luckily it was only a 20-ish foot pine, wasn't closer to the road, and wasn't one of the giant oaks/maples along the same road!

I am thankful we aren't among the many still without power in this region. This morning there were still a whole bunch of school systems closed due to power outages. :(

We are now shopping for a generator.......we've put it off long enough without consequences, we aren't going to keep rolling dice.

Crazy wicked winds. A lot of trees and limbs down. We've been without power since Sunday. Other than that we fared okay.
