In the Chaz tradition of being very open about all sorts of things, I'm wondering if anyone would care to share their experiences with menstrual cups?

I used to think they were very much not for me, but I'm reconsidering given some reading I have done recently.

I gave it a shot after reading a bunch on them.... I personally hated it. I didn't give it three months like people say to do because I couldn't keep from leaking for 3 days straight and it was making my cramps 10x worse.

So, didn't end well for me but the benefits do seem pretty cool. I switched to natural pads after that which has helped my god-awful periods be not so god-awful.

I've never used them (I don't even vare for tampons, tbh...), but a coworker of mine swore by them.

That's about all I have. Lol

I will be honest, I have very little tolerance for leaking, so that has been one of my biggest concerns about them.

I *really* like the idea that they can be left in place for up to 12 hours, though - now that I'm at IPO club for full days and hiking for 6+ hours at a time, not having to figure out what to do for hygiene without a bathroom would be excellent.

I've had to use one a couple times when I had to go swimming (on very light days thankfully)... I'm not really a fan. Mostly I just ended up scratching myself trying to put it in properly and it wasn't comfortable at all (of course I was worried I'd lose it too, and was never sure it was properly in place either).

Plus it's just really messy IMO, you end up with blood all over anyway when you take it off so I still had to use a small pad... For what it's worth though, I don't use tampons either.

I've been using a diva cup for, gosh, over 4 years now.

Easy to put in and remove.
no leaking.
and yes - I can empty and clean mine twice a day. Which is awesome on dog sport weekends.

emptying them can be messy sometimes if your flow is heavy or you pull it out all wrong. But it's saw I do that about once every couple of months and I just turn on the hot water, use an excessive amount of TP and then wash up.

Huge diva cup fan for the last 4 years. I also didn't like it at first, mostly because (and I'm really sorry if this is TMI) I just couldn't get it to open correctly. Like... it would be creased while it was inside so it would leak a little and was uncomfortable. I looked at few different ways to fold it and open it and after 2 periods I knew I would never go back. I think I have pretty average periods in terms of heavy vs light.

As far as making a mess, I do get some on my hand sometimes when emptying it, but it's WAY less of a mess than pads. I hate pads because I feel like it gets everywhere.

All in all, for me, I love that I can wear it all day without worrying, I save a ton of money not using disposables and I don't create so much waste. It really works for me.

Yeah it was my problem with it.

Have used the Diva Cup brand the last two years. Love it. Never going back.

That's the brand I have. I hadn't used it for long (several months) but found it very easy to put in, take out, clean, and I didn't have a mess. Also, no odor, which I liked a lot. The only downside - I went back to tampons when I am going to be in a public only bathroom because I like to wash it out not just wipe it. So if I'm working somewhere that there isn't a private bath, I don't use it.

Been using the diva cup for oh....8 years now? Well I guess like 6 1/2 as I only had 3 cycles in between the kids but yeah, for quite awhile now. I LOVE it! Only time I have ever leaked is if its not in right or if I am super heavy overnight.....but I have leaked with tampons as well (very heavy) and always with pads so its still much better. And honestly I cant remember the last time I leaked with it, even when heavy.

I have used a Diva Cup for probably 5 years now. I will never go back. Ever. I never tolerated pads and tampons just felt awkward. I don't notice my diva cup at all. I carry single use sanitary wipes if I'm going to be somewhere without a way to wash it but otherwise I just put it in and forget about it. Love the part that I can put my Nuva Ring back in on time with it.

Pads and tampons are a thing of the past for me!

I used a Diva cup for awhile, and I really liked it. Get the proper size and learn how to use it correctly and you won't have problems with leaks. It was SO nice to only have to think about it a couple of times a day. I accidentally threw mine away after washing it and just haven't gotten around to replacing it yet.

Interesting... so here's a TMI question... how far in do you have to put these things? Do you have to get your hand right in there? I'm intrigued, but honestly, if I really have to put my hand in to get it in and out I probably won't try it. I just... don't want to do that. Lol. When I had my IUD placed I had to put these tablets in to dilate my cervix... I made my boyfriend do it. Lol. (Told you, TMI)

It's not THAT different than putting in a tampon, really. There's a technique where you sort of fold it in half, insert, and then when you let go it pops open. But you don't have to... like, try to fist yourself or anything. :p

I use the diva cup and I like it A LOT.

My cramps are WAY less severe with the diva cup.
It does leak, particularly the first day or two. That may have something to do with my EXTREMELY heavy periods. I just wear a pantyliner with it. I do the same with tampons, though. WOOOO endometriosis.
It easily paid for its self within the first six months and do you know how many boxes of tampon wrappers did not go in a landfill because of that?!?

It's so convenient. I love it so much. I need a new one (I've been using the same one for :yikes::yikes: 3+ years (that's embarrassing to admit) and am still using the same one from pre-childbirth so it's not the right size).

I really want to get reusable pads and liners, too. OR those sea sponge tampons THEY'RE SO COOL.

I get way too excited about eco-friendly, reusable feminine products lol.

No more than putting in a tampon applicator. There's a little plastic nub thing that goes to the entrance of your vagina to pull it out. To insert it you sort of roll it up and stick it in and then it kind of pops open once it's in.

^^ I have some reusable pads from Party in my Pants and I LOVE them. They're fairy inexpensive and save a TON of money.
