I've seen so many obese dogs that it doesn't seem so unreasonable. But there should be acceptions where the dog/person cannot for some reason walk. There should be a limit on how out of shape a dog could be. But I like that it says dogs can't be chained.

How does walking a dog prevent chaining?

how on earth do they plan on enforcing this?

You stole my question!!

What about dogs that live on farms and have several acres to run on? What about dogs that have medical problems that require them to not be walked?

This is one of the most absurd ideas I've heard in a very long time.

sounds absurd...

my dogs dont get walked everyday, they are in perfect shape. Everyone's dog needs different kinds/amounts of exercise.

Seriously there are more important things that need to be addressed then whether people are walking or not walking their dog AND there are plenty of people who walk their dogs and are terrible dog owners.

I would think that this would be very hard to control , and they would have to omit dogs that live on farms and are not chained . Luckily they aren't including those fenced in ! Still , more rules being forced on people . Ugh ! The only good thing is that it would hurt puppy millers in the pocket book !

God the RSPCA has some ridiculous ideas.
Our lot get "walked" atleast once a day. We're on 15 acres now with a 1.5 acre houseyard, I'd say they're happy. Plus I take Buster whenever I walk into town.

We are also chaining them a lot more, they arn't all easy dogs and they can't all be trusted together so yes, getting chained to a cable between tree's and relaxing in the shade and fresh air is not imo mean or cruel at all, especially considering it could be 8 or 10 hours on the odd occasion, too long in a crate by far and none of them are too fazed by it.

Ack--there are weather conditions that Jack CAN'T be walked in (ice crusted on snow for example). My dogs do not get walked daily but are not fat at all. Really, it's not that hard to keep the weight off a dog as long as there is not some underlying health issue.

Yep, there are some dogs that could probably stand a walk for various reason, but there are also kids that could stand to play in the park more often too--should parents be required by law to take the kids to the park daily?

this doesn't seem realistic... i can't imagine how it would be inforced... good motives, just i dont see how it could work.

Everyone dogs and lifestyles and exercise requirements are different.

LOL - Sienna would totally lie about it too. No, officer, I NEVER go outside and they ignore me ALL day!! I haven't had a belly rub in FIVE WHOLE MINUTES!! Abuse!

Seriously, though, that's a scary amount of regulation to even be considering. And I thought the US was bad about that stuff. Yikes!

*shakes head*

I am totally behind the idea of obese dogs being considered abuse.......but to mandate dog walking? WOW.......there are just too many holes in this idea to write out this late in the day! LOL

I don't walk my dog.

We go to the 400+ acre open space/dog park and hike. Or would that not count?

He also goes to work with JJ and runs around an 80,000 sq. ft space a few times a week.

My guess is that they would just use it to have another tool to prosecute actual cases of animal abuse.

But, yeah, an odd proposal.

If it does come into play though it will be interesting to see how mills handle it. I'm sure the RSPCA will continue finding methods to avoid the real problems and continue to make up stupid regulations.

That's weird. My dog does get walked daily. My bestfriend has three beasts that never get walked yet they have a giant yard that they scoot around in. Nothing is cruel about that set up.

After sleeping on it (yes, things like this roll around in my head when I finally sleep, LOL) Grammy, Bailey and mrose touched on a thought I had ;)

It will INDEED be interesting to see how the mills escape this new law (if it passes) This proposal could in fact NOT be aimed at the general dog owner, but instead another method to use against mills..........very interesting concept, sort of like going after Hoffa for tax evasion, LOL

Still don't understand the logistics of keeping track of who's walked and who hasn't, but I did want to look at it from another angle, LOL
