So to start off, a few things we noticed in the way of differences between the US and Canada.

The US has far more reasonable speed limits. And thus less speeders than we usually see (except CT for some reason) I loved 70 mph speed limits.

High Fructose corn syrup. It was EVERYWHERE. We don't have it. Like at all up here. Seems all the tasty things we liked aren't available up here because companies don't want to reformulate. Talking with Ben and Becca about "cane" sugar was interesting. Here its "sugar". When it says sugar that means it came from sugar cane...

Off Ramps and merging. (lots of driving notes... as we did lots and lots of driving... over 4000 miles) Here off ramps tend to be gradual, you don't have to go from fast to really slow right away to avoid flipping over. It took some getting used too. Merging, I don't know if its cause we have more land... but here you typically get long merging lanes, in the US we just kind of closed our eyes and went for it. (little kia with trailer didn't have an abundance of acceleration)

Signs advertising for hospitals.. we dont' have them. Things about freedom and things about God, we don't have those either.

Ticks... for anyone who read our blog... ewww the ticks.

Cheap food and cheap gas. Most foods were much cheaper in the US and gas at its best was almost half the price it is here. Oh and we don't have pre pay gas. Here you pump your gas and then go in and pay how ever much it took.

Divided hwys. LOVED them. I loved driving along and not looking at on coming traffic for hours on end. Much much prettier. We need more here.

Toll roads, and road condition. Over all the roads are in better condition here and we don't have toll roads for the most part. Strange but true. (I thought paying for roads would make them better...)

Lack of mosquitos in the south, almost made up for the ticks. Did I mention the ewww ticks....?

Lack of lakes and cottages. Now this could be because we are in Ontario where we have a ridiculous amount of rivers and lakes. But here you drive by any lake and there are cottages all the way around. Most places we went it was state park property around the lake... looking at the map it kind of makes sense as there are far far less lakes.

Swimming, seems people don't swim in states with 'I', at least not in natural bodies of water. They do seem to have a plethora of water parks....

In NY we over heard lots of people saying "string" for leash. Oh I should put my dog on a string, see that dog is on a string... didn't hear it anywhere else though.

Grammar and general Gerry Springer show stuff. We didn't think there were people like that in real life. You know all paid actors and such. Nope, they are REAL!!

Poverty. I have never seen people so poor before, or so many 'ghost towns'. Ran into a family at a gas station in TN where the kids had no shoes and the Dad's sandals were completely worn away from the ball of the foot forward. All sorts of abandoned buildings, homes and businesses. Even banks boarded up..

There is likely more but this is all we can remember for the moment...

Now for the PICS!!!

be patient there are MANY

Darien took this pic on our way crossing into the US.. whoot we were on our way!!

Not long after crossing we see this... def not in Canada anymore!

Kat chillin in her crate in the back... little did she know she had nearly a month of this.

Our first stay was in Thompson lake state park. The park was Meh (showers were good though 8/10 on our shower scale) The hiking near by was fantastic.

The over look.

ever so much more....

turns out the over look was a great spot for portraits.

great heights bore me..

I smell dead people! Smudge was so intent on wanting to go over the edge, turns out someone had commited suicide a few days before and had just been removed.

this is only the beginning...

Dekka wasn't as full of cute as she normally is.

I do like that she has 'anime happy eyes' in this pic

Then we went for a walk. Do you see the water fall waaaayyy over there?

We got to walk behind it (and in it on the way back as we were hot)

lots of fun cliffs

and not so fun stairs

This is one of the reasons we didn't like the park.. it would have been simpler to state NO FUN on the sign and be done with it.

still more pics comming

Then we drove for ever (18 hours) to end up in MD. We left at 6:45 and pulled into our camp site at 12:30. It wasn't straight there, we had some other out of the way stops.

This camp site was nice. I was introduced to my first tick. It bit me on the back of the knee. I freaked out and ran over to one of our neighbours, where I became a spectacle for all their visiting Asian relatives, who were all medical professionals.

(see the pretty tick infested woods?)

This campsite was on the Chesapeake bay. See I have a Chesapeake bay retriever :D

It started to get dark, which was too bad as it was very pretty.

Not there yet...

Forgot the pic of the light house

We swam in the Delaware bay. We found an unofficial beach with an awesome view of a nuclear power plant lol. Leather collars and salt water DO mix!

We lacked bathing suits, not that that stopped us.

see the power plant?

The water was very warm and the dogs were enthusiastic.

My dog is a water freak

Then we left for PA.

This is our campsite at Raystown lake. We highly recommend that park. The showers were good.

The camping life

yes I have moar!

It had a great beach area where dogs were allowed.

very pretty.. you should go (just watch out for ticks, we pulled almost 40 off smudge one morning)

with the heat and warmer water than at home Kat turned into a fish. She is tired from swimz.

We even had a Nolu!

It poured rain so our next stop was a motel in Lancaster. Hey Sparks... ever shop in Amish Ect? We were DYING of curiosity but it was closed when we got there and was sadly still closed when we left.

We hit a JRT trial near Philly. Fantastic time. For those who didn't see the pic before, this is how the two little dogs did that weekend.

The people who ran the trial were fantastic!!! We had such a great time.

Then we drove down to NC. We ended up staying with a friend of Laura's. AC and internet were as nice as having a real bed.

We loved NC. Highly recommend Rolling Hills state park. Almost deserted, very private, fantastic swimming (with dogs) The showers sucked, but we didn't realize there were others that didn't suck. What DID suck were the over 30 deer ticks Laura had to pull from my arms and upper back. Sadly no pics of that park.

Then we hit TN where we stayed a couple of nights in a holler. Oh it was fantastic. We want to move to a holler in TN. The pics speak for themselves (and yes that is my DR/DA dog loose in a pack of dogs.. that is another post however)

we still have miles to go...

sadly no pics of smudge came out at the creek.

We got to meet Renee and Kharma. Both are lovely. Kharma was extremely polite about Kat shrieking at her. Here feet are sooo huge!

Sadly it was raining and near dusk so the pics didn't come out all that great.

Then we headed over to IL. On the way some misty mountains

We had time to kill in IL so we hooked up with Chewbecca and Ella'sdaddy. Best decision evar. They and their family are soo fantastic. We killed all of our time with them. We stayed at a KOA by night and hung out by day. (more about the KOA in a bit)

Luke has the widest mouth evar, in the history of evar. It doesn't even fit in the pic

Ophie is as serious as Luke is a goof.

Luke says being serious is for weenies

Do you see this little dog? Do you see the solid 6 foot plus fence? This little dog scaled this high fence. We found her chilln by the side door waiting to come in.

still more pics to come

what is it with kids? Gavin and Darien were fast friends. Though there are so much alike they fought lots too. Seriously it was hard to get a decent pic of the two of them...

stupid pics

lets make this as hard as possible

what the heck?

this is the best I got, at least they are smiling

Kat got some bling

and Smudge got some bling

so Dekka isn't the only one with a pretty collar.

Moth drove 6 hours round trip to meet us. She is sooo nice. We had a good time visiting at the KOA. Watson is incredibly handsome. Pics do not do him justice.

Now about the KOA. We had HORRIBLE neighbours who partied it up till 2 am, burnt plastic and pressure treated wood in their fire pit, sending noxious smells our way. And they had an off leash dog that kept coming over and setting our guys off.

The KOA gave us a Kamping Kabin for the night. It was cute and it had AC

oh yes we camp with agility equipment.. I mean who doesn't?

the three dogs eating side by side in the kabin

Smudge says too tired to blog

now this is horrible pic, but I just HAD to have a pic. These people camped with their chickens. Seriously, they camped with everything but the kitchen sink, and their chickens.

(makes our agility equip seem far less strange)

Sadly it was time to move on. Off to Indiana. We had issues finding a campground with swimming (remember what we said about states starting with "I"?) We were kind of lost in the midst of Amish country when we saw a sign that says Amish camping. We did a u turn and found one of the nicest camp grounds we stayed in. 15 dollars for a primitive site. There was no one else down there with us.

Swimming in Amishville (yes that is what it is called)

Kat is now a stick fetching enthusiast, though that can be problematic

Thankfully she gives it up to her mom. Dekka would go down fighting for the stick...

getting to the end of the pics

our campsite where we were the attraction (ooh look Canadians....) where people drove their golf carts way down to the primitive area to stop and stare

The end (well there is one more pic but we still have to take it) We left there and did an agility trial in Ohio, where 3 of us came home with health issues... and no pics.

interesting--I have never heard any NY'er say 'string" for leash! And up in the hilltowns where you stayed--yeah, there are some interesting people--generations of families living up there.

Baxter and Wilson approve of the lookout for photographs.

and that tree you photographed is one of the most photographed trees in the area--that broken branch happened two winters ago from an ice storm. Ok--so that is all more than you cared to know. lol

Great pictures for a great adventure!

So cool. I'm seriously jealous of the trip. It looks AMAZING.

And....I've lived in NY my whole life, and I have never, ever, ever heard anyone refer to a dog leash as "string"....

The last pic (taken at great expense... Kerri just hurt herself lol) Our guys' ribbons from the CPE trial in Ohio

Smudges are the top bar, Dekka's are the bottom bar. Not bad at all for dogs who have been on the road for a month ;)
