I got Lucas a choke chain because it doesn't flatten his hair and I just like the look better than flat collars. It's only on when we go walking and for pictures lol but the regular colars make his fur funky and I don't know any where to get the leather ones and I don't like the look anyways, but here's the pics: :)

Look at all that manly chest hair :p lol

careful! choke chains tend to break double coted dog's fur!!!! It makes it all krinkly, dry, and dead-looking!!!!!! You're best to go for a nylon slip lead if you don't wanna pay the money for a roled leather, don't care to search for a fur-saver nylon collar, and aren't going to bother with a fur-saver choker.

You so have to p.c., a "corrective collar," haha! So glad you have it on correctly. I go into PetSmart and see corrective collars on backwards... your baby is beautiful..... I use them too, but don't let them live in them.... they can get "stuck" on something and stress the pup and choke them. They should be an on an off collar...

Yep choke chains can be really bad for the fur
My friends Akita went almost Bald on his neck because of a choke chain
i dont like choke chains anyway but i wont get into that,

Do you use it for walking? if so i would just use a Harness, that what my friend has to do with her Akita now, he cant wear a collar

Lucas looks so handsome! And yup, it is nice to see that you put the chain on correctly. And btw, I hope you bought a nice, high-quailty chain instead of one from a grocery store. I bought Zeus one from Wal-Mart, and he snapped the chain while on a walk one day. He wasn't even really trying. Cheap, garbage chain.

lol i love when people say that choke collars are soooo cruel they woudl never use them. now i dont think theyre right for small dogs, because you can handle a small dog easily, for large breed dogs, you need to have as much control as possible, even dogs who are well trained can sometimes try to pull or take off and i think the choke collar is the best thing in the world for large dogs. with reugar, i tried the harness, and ive heard a lot of people say that it actually engourages them to pull. my dog weighs 65 pounds already ( and im pretty small..) so i need to have 100% control over him or else he cant go anywhere and thats not fair to him. so yay for the chokers!

Guy's....it's NOT for training lol. Lucas walks fine on leash and doesn't pull at all (except a harness I just can't get him to stop pulling, not a lot but still he pulls on the harness). For one, he can slip the regular collars/harnesses even when I've had someone who knew how to fit them fit it on him and even though he doesn't try to anymore I'm still afraid of him getting off the leash. It's just the fear of him getting off leash and running into traffic or something. Plus like jxxlxxs said, it gives me the knowledge that IF the time did come I could control him and not be pulled along the street.

Gempress: Don't worry, it's not a cheap one. I bought it at the pet store I work at and it's a pretty nice collar.

Twilight: He does have a harness with the ring on the front (as well as a regular collar and another harness with the ring on the back), but with that he pulls worse and know's how to get out of it. He is such a tricky dog when he wants to be!

animalbiz: Thanks, I made it a point to make sure it was on right. And I only put it on him when it has to be on, like for walks. It goes on right before the walk and comes off right as we get in. So no worries there. :)

I don't really like chokers as a training tool, I personally like using harnesses for dogs. The two other dogs that I walk both have harnesses and I like using them, but for Lucas the choke chain is better. It has not once tightened on our walks. He knows to heel and stays on a loosh-leash the entire time. I worked really hard with him on not pulling and the "leave it command" (those small animals are pretty tempting lol) to get him to where he is.

Any more questions or, preferably, compliments? lol :p

I get mine at the dog shows. I have never seen them in pet stores either. You could watch for a local dog show to come to your area or just break down and buy one on line ;)

Let me look at the show calendar and I will post the next local show in your area in just a minute. They have so many awesome vendors! You would love shopping for your pooch there! Give me a minute....
