Whitacre escaped out the front door in between students (I teach private clarinet/saxophone lessons on Tuesdays). He was gone for over two hours. Jon and I were out with flashlights and no coats in the cold the entire time.

I found him. I don't know how. The spot where I found him I had already checked three times before. I'm just glad I thought to look that one more time.

He's home now and safe. In fact, he's already acting as though nothing out of the ordinary happened.

I'm still pretty shaken up, though. Jon is still pretty upset, too. For over two hours I was terrified, beside myself with worry. There are so many terrible things that could happen to a lost, scared, indoor-only cat. Thankfully, none of those things happened. Thank goodness.

Sorry for all the rambling. It's been an awful couple of hours and I just needed to let it out of my system.

Glad he's safe. It's going to sound crazy but it's one of the reasons I'm glad we have a cat door... I don't have to get worried sick that someone might let her out anymore. It's happened in the past and it was awful.

Lucky you found him. Its good to know that it ended up that way, its always terrifying waiting or hoping for them to come home (happened to one of my friends).

Thank you all for the comments!

He's gotten out before, but usually he just stops at the grass and starts chewing on it. I don't know if something spooked him or what, but he has never bolted like he did last night before.

"Terrifying" really seems too mild of a word, especially in the moment. I really don't think there is a word that could describe the emotion I'd be feeling if anything happened to this cat. He's my baby.

That's one of the worst feelings ever. Glad she got found! (((((((HUGS)))))))
It was awful! I was still somewhat a mess at work today, too. Even though we got him back safely, I was so unsettled by the whole event that I just couldn't sleep well last night. I just wanted to be home, just so I could be sure that he was still there and not lost again.
