I'm looking for an American Pit Bull puppy in the central Florida area. I am willing to adopt if the pup is either a red or blue nose and is no older than 6 months of age. I am not willing to pay more than $450. The pup MUST be a male. Ear clipping and neutered is okay, but if the tail is docked...I don't want him. I will consider a male pittie who is in desperate need of adoption, regardless of color, etc. please email me

I am in florida as well and You should have no trouble locating a gorgeous dog here. Check the local humane society, I know here in south florida that seems to be all they have from puppies to older dogs. THat would be a great place to start, unless you want papers. Best wishes.

why don't you start by going to dog shows and speaking to pitbull breeders. They may be able to assist you. They can give you referrals to breeders who may have the kind of dog you are looking for. Shelters more than likely have many pitbull and pitbull mixes but they must be neutered and will either be neutered when you adopt them or they are required to be neutered shortly after adoption.

I don't want to pay $1,000+ for a dog. Most show dogs are in that price range. I want a pet, not a show dog.

The only reason I would like for the dog to be registered is for "bragging rights" and so that I can know 100% that my dog is purebred.

I'm not trying to be a B*&$#, but I honestly doubt that I'd goto a dog show. It is a good idea, and I do appreciate your advice. But I am 16 years old and I currently don't have a car, etc. So even if I wanted to go, I most likely wouldn;t have any transportation.

I want to get this dog by January 2007.

Why do you want this dog? Is it to be "macho". To show your friends how "bad" you are? That's what gives these dogs a bad reputation.

Why MUST you have a dog so soon? Can you afford it? You say you have no transportation to a dog show, does that mean you won't have transportation to a feed store to buy food for this dog? Does this mean you wno't have transportation to *training classes* with this dog? Do you understand what it takes to own a pitbull? There are legislations in some places.. have you checked to see if the insurance will allow you to have a pit bull? What if they up your insurance because you own one. You surely didn't want to spend good money on a good dog..

If i was a breeder, I would not sell you a dog. You are 16, wich is the main reason. Here's why:

1)You dont have trasportation. What happens if the dog gets sick?
2)What if your parents deside they dont want to suport you or the dog?
3)What happens when you go to university? You cant take a pit in a dor and 99% of renters whont let a pit in.
4)How can you afford a dog while you are in school? I've done high school and alot of demanding full time university courses. You do NOT have time to work and go to school both full time.
5)$450 for a pure bred pit? yeah right. Not from a good breeder. Only BYB wich is the worst idea when getting a dog like a pit.
6)A pet dog from a show litter is going to be $800+. Most breedes are show people so tehey breed for show, but not all dogs are show material. They are not going to sell even their pets for $450
7)Do you realize how much it costs to set up for a dog. Including the pupp shots I would say $1000, PLUS the puppy price.
8)So far you have not demonstrated knowledge of the breed

The only reason I would like for the dog to be registered is for "bragging rights" and so that I can know 100% that my dog is purebred
Whats so wrong with a Pit cross? are thye not good enough for you?

Here are my bragging rights...

I own a Pit Bull/German Shepherd mix - he was adopted from the St. Petersburg SPCA in Florida. He was 8 months old, was a stray, had been in there since 4 months old and had days to lives. He doesn't have papers but, I was 10 years old, I could have easily told my father that I wanted one of the tiny little puppies they had.

But nope.. my bragging rights are that I had a heart - and to this day my decision wouldn't be any different.

If you don't plan to show or breed - why is it a complete NECESSITY to own a pure bred?

A shelter dog gives you just as good as bragging rights as any predigree.

I'm going to be blunt...I don't want a mix-breed pit bull for 2 reasons. 1. I don't like their look. and 2. but most important...ever since I was a child, when I was bit in the face by a pit bull mix, I have been scared of mixes.

Another thing...I own a pit bull now...a female. She is weel taken care of, I have a part time job. I plan on going to college, but I am not going to be staying at a dorm...I plan on staying in Central Fl. I am getting married in Sept. 2007. I have a 3.8 GPA, I am a very responsible person. I take responsibility for all my actions. I go without sometimes so that my dog can have the best. As for transportation..I don't have reliable transportation to far distances. I hae a ride to the vet and store. etc. And my fiancee is 19 and co-signed for my pit bull that I have now and will do the same for the next one I get. He is also getting another pit...to be a total of 3.

I don't like their look
you realise how silly that sounds right?
the fact that you said mix implys that your talking about a pitbull being crossed with another breed,
if you had said i dont like the look of pit/poodle crosses then tht i could understand.
But mixes very rarely look the same,
how do you know the pit mix you get won't hav more pit or more of the other breed.
i just think thats funny because mixes very rarely look the same.

I have to disagree there. There are several good reasons why people who don't show or breed absolutely want a purebred. *note* I am not talking down on mutts. I'm just giving valid reasons why some people may prefer a purebred.

-Predictability. You know what its size, exercise requirements, temperament, etc., are going to be like. That's a huge advantage if you have very specific requirements for your dog (such as non-shedding, low energy, specific adult size, etc.) You have no idea what the cute little 8-week-old mutt at the Humane Society is going to grow into.

These last two apply to those who get their purebreds from a breeder:
-Health. A puppy from a reputable breeder comes from parents who have been thoroughly tested for genetic problems. You're much more likely to have a healthy dog.

-Support. Good breeders are always there for you, for the life of the dog. They'll give you training advice, answer questions, and will even take the dog back if necessary.

I know that my reasons sound a little silly; but with all due respect, if I am the one paying for the dog, caring for the dog, loving the dog, etc., then I have all the right to be as picky as I like...Some people don't really care when their pets grow up to look like, but I do.

And my wanting another pit bull has nothing to do with "looking hard" or whatever. Believe me, I don't need a "vicious" dog to "get respect" in my neighborhood. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not some little hood rat/juvenile delinquent. But, at the same time, I don't take crap from people, I stand up for myself, my loved ones and what I believe in. I have gone through a lot and grown from it.

I dont think there is anything wrong with looking for a breeder. I would suggest looking for a an american staffordshire bull terrier breeder. I am sure you can find a pure bred pit in a shelter.

This is off topic, but you are getting married at the age of 16?? Wow! I thought 19 was young.
