I'm looking for a Doberman breeder. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start I've been emailing a few people that I find on the internet but most of them don't email me back. I'm going to start searching for dog competions next. Thanks for any help.

What are you looking for-a show prospect, a companion only animal, or what?

To be honest, there are VERY few doberman breeders in the southern CA area I'd recommend anymore. Most of the really GOOD breeders around here have either died, moved to another area, stopped breeding or made the transition to another breed. Really a pity, as there used to be some very fine breeders in this area. I live in the Inland Empire, my last puppy came from Alaska. :)

While there are some shows (Cypress College and Riverside) coming up in the near future, almost certainly the entry will be pretty low for both. The next really large doberman entry you could expect would be in January in Indio, when there are 2 doberman specialty shows followed by 2 all breed shows.

Other than that, you might contact Angie Monteleon of Montwood dobermans in San Diego. They pay a lot of attention to health testing and temperament. Angie IS NOT on email, you'd have to contact her via landline, but her contact info should be on the DPCA breeder referral.

Thanks I am trying to call her as I type this but her number is busy. But yea I just want a pet. I'm shooting for a pup around early November that gives me time around here to get ready and stuff. But yea I agree there are really no breeders here in southern cali. My brother in law says that in Flordia Dobermans are as popular as Pit Bulls are out here he also says it's hard to find Pit Bulls out there. Go figure.

Oh, there's more than a few doberman breeders in the area..that doesn't mean I'd recommend them to anyone or ever consider buying a puppy from them myself.

Whether you decide to go with Montwood or some other breeder, there's a good chance you might wind up on a waiting list...most of our better breeders don't breed that often, so they might not have a puppy exactly when you want one.
