Would "Leader of the Band" by Dan Fogelberg be too schmaltzy? What about an instrumental piece? (Maybe Fanfare for the Common Man?)

Sis and I put together a slideshow (on iMovie) for my little sister's 40th and used instrumental pieces through the whole thing. Worked pretty well...

He would have been in the WWII era who listed to big band music, music from the 1940's. You might look through some songs of that era, and he might get a kick out of that.

I have satellite radio, and my dad, who is 85, has the best time when he rides in my car, and I play the 1940's station. He will laugh and say it's been ages since he's heard these songs, and he'll try to sing along.

My niece aND my daughter were with us once, and they really loved seeing him have a good time listening to songs he knew when he was young.

I don't remember very many, but a few of the bands that come on that my dad could recognize were Tommy Dorsey, the Glenn Miller Band, the Andrews Sisters. I can't think of any more right now.

For some reason I keep thinking Johnny Cash, lol . . . Crazy Old Soldier (with Ray Charles), I've Been Everywhere, The Highwayman. I have no idea if any of those would be appropriate for you grandfather or not.

If you want, send me your e-mail address and I'll zap you the files.
