Isn't she adorable? She's in our mudroom right now... she's been over at our house since 5pm last night. Her owners said she's an indoor dog, but I don't believe them. I've been seeing her out and about constantly, and I called them several times as well as left a message with my name, phone number, etc and that Missy was over here asking if they could come pick her up. No one called back.

I could give them the benefit of the doubt... and say, "oh, maybe they're not home." But the fact is, that's just as bad. Go out all night and leave your dog roaming!?

*sigh* She and I slept together in there, and have been hanging out since yesterday evening. I've brushed an unbelievable amount of fur off of her. The only good news is that it looks like she isn't being fed crap anymore and she's not covered in ticks and fleas... I checked her all over while grooming, and couldn't find a single thing.

Missy is a beautiful dog. I wonder why they haven't called. They must know she's in good hands with you but they aren't being very good parents to her.

Not being good parents.. understatement of the year. I have horror stories. (And a cat gnawing on my hand.)

Anywho, I spent half an hour brushing her this morning after I posted..and I had piles and piles of hair.. go so much dried dirt, dead bugs, dandruff, dead undercoat, and dust out that we had to clean the floor afterwards. They mentioned they'd only ever taken her to a groomer once... it's rather obvious. She was such a ham, eating it all up.. she'snapping now, so I let her be. :)

Apparently her owners are gone for the weekend, and may have asked someone to come feed her for them. I talked with a couple of the neighbors, and what they told me isn't true, apparently.. she's not allowed in the house now.

So Missy is at our house, has been all day. Since she had no intention of leaving, and we left the door open for hours, we've decided she can stay. I checked her all over several times for fleas, ticks, any sort of bug in general.. only found dead ones trapped in her fur, all of which were groomed out. Because she's (to my knowledge) bug-free, I let her inside today. She napped on the couch with my dad and I for hours, all cuddled up to me. It was nice. I spent some more time grooming her, and finally didn't come away with piles of hair. She got some rice for dinner, since 24 hours with only teensie bits of food isn't the best for her.

It's so nice having a dog around. :( I miss it..

Edit: My pic finally loaded. Enjoy..

Lookie! A kitty!

*sigh*

*yawn*

See how well she matches our decor? Yellow matches the couch, her nose matches the tiles, etc. LOL!

I've already asked... I presented my case in a well-thought-out, diplomatic way, and hopefully tugged on her owner's heartstrings a bit. This is the first dog my mother has ever gotten attatched to and trusts around her face, it boggles my mind. My mom doesn't even mind when Missy slurps her face! :yikes: I really hope they say yes... I want to take her to a professional groomer and get her cleaned up so badly, and not have to say goodbye every time she "has to go home."

The kitties were so cute, sleeping next to her today and snuffling noses. When the cats and the parents are approving, I think we've got a fighting chance at her having a nice, warm home into her old age. :)

I can't wait to hear what the "owners" say. Sounds to me like Missy has made up her mind.

Isn't she the sweetest thing???

Why don't you just keep her and see who complains? Sounds to me like they don't really much want her anyway! And she sure looks happy in those photos.

Yes, I wanted to do that. "Oh, your dog? Yeah, she was here.. wandered off a while ago, we haven't seen her since.." But I was specifically ordered not to. My mother always knows exactly what I'm thinking. :p My parents are so honorable.. it hasn't seemed to rub off yet. He owner picked her up last night. :( She seemed happy to see him, but nowhere near what she was to us.

And you guys are right. She was unbelievably happy. All she could do was wag her tail and smile. And, she was terrified we'd kick her off the couch.. I don't get the feeling she's allowed on comfy things a lot.

But you know what? What would you guys choose, if you were her? A house with three footwarmers the humans euphemistically call "cats," unlimited couch/cushion/bed time, never get hit over the head for doing something wrong, your own crate, good food, lots of things to chew on, daily walks, no being banished to the outside, and humans who haven't gone on a real vacation in three years who just are not likely to leave you alone for a week? Being groomed every day, getting clean and bathed, vet atention for your health problems... or a garage and some kibble dumped in a bowl and allowed to roam the neighborhood at night, in the cold, etc? She was so desperate for attention last fall, that she wagged her tail and happily wriggled her butt while Lizzey used the tweezers to pull loads of ticks off of her, from around her eyes and inside her ears, between her paws. When a dog is on cloud nine because human hands are just touching her, even when they're pulling TICKS out of her skin... that is just wrong.

My bet is that her owners aren't going to call me back, and just conveniently forget. *shrug* That's basically how they've operated in the past with me, and a few of the other neighbors. I'll just mention it every time I see them. :)

I wish you could have kept her. I would keep a really close eye on her. If you ever see her outside bring her in, If you notice her infested with ticks again call AC I'm pretty sure they can take them away if they don't take her to the vet for that. I wish she could have a better life...with you.

Actually that's a good idea. I wish that occurred to me months ago, all the times we had her here and were picking ticks off of her. Then maybe we could go to the shelter and adopt her... and they wouldn't be able to say a thing about it.

She's outside ALL the time, Maxy. I at least bring her into the screened-in porch, and if the weather's hot, cold, wet, humid.. well, anything short of perfect, that's my excuse to bring her in the mudroom. And if I've groomed her and found her free of bugs and cleaned any mud or wetness off of her, then I'll let her inside. My dad pretends to hate it.. but he's such a sucker for her. He and I have spent a lot of time plotting the best ways to get her owners to want to give her to us.
