Wow, the yellow pages?

I'm going to check it out then... I had a scare a while ago, and I really want to learn to protect myself. I hate walking around living in fear.

I wouldn't be afraid to kill someone who was attacking me if I knew what the hell I was doing.
Have you ever played a video game like halo? Becouse it is nothing like that in real life. You have to line up the front and back sight, aim and fire. All when under temendous stress.

Why dont you become a ninja? My dad was a ninja. He fought a gangster once that had a sawed off shotgun, and my dad hit him 20 times breking both the gangsters arms and one leg. And if u are a ninja everyone will fear you.

Paintball would be fun, I would love to try it.

It hurts when you get nailed by those things though, doesn't it?

How about one of those tazers? They shoot out a line that has hooks on it that sticks in a person shocking them. They completely incapacatate a criminal, even if on drugs.

Your knees and elbows are the hardest points on your body, so if you are in a position to use them, do so. Also, to steal from Miss Congeniality, SING. Solar plexus, in-step, nose, groin. And raking the side of your foot down the attacker's shin usually buys you enough time to break free and make a run for it. Eyes are also a vulnerable point. Scratching the face may not be the thing that makes them let go, but it does provide an easy identification marker for police; makes them stand out in a crowd.

Never underestimate the power of mace and an air horn, or the fact that the more noise you make and the more of a fight you put up, the less likely the attacker will follow through. Many of them are cowards looking for the easiest prey they can find and can be deterred. But always remember, never press your advantage! If you have the chance to run for it, take it! Don't go back and try and beat the living daylights out of the guy.

Thanks, Zoom, that's good advice.

From Alabama. Wonder what the rate of illiteracy is in Alabama these days???? Seems to me that some other types of seminars would have better served the O.P.
"Mississippi ranked worst among the 50 states, with every third adult in the state, 30 percent of its adult population, placed in Level I. Louisiana has the second highest illiteracy rate with 28 percent of its adult population in Level I, followed by Alabama, Florida and South Carolina, each with 25 percent. In these states the combined Level I and Level II literacy rates would push the level of illiteracy and near-illiteracy to nearly 70 percent of the adult population.

As bad as the above figures are, an even greater catastrophe can be seen in the reports of many cities where over 60 percent of the adult population, more than one out of two people, could not perform above the Level I literacy rate. California recorded six cities in this category. Miami, Florida reported 63 percent of its residents at the Level I literacy level."

Having said that, I don't need a weapon now that i've found out I can kill with my bare hands. (this is in joking context of course :D )

I dont' know much about the AK, but I think they have very high recoil so it's actually hard to aim or something.

And I remember reading something about mace on this thread, don't you think mace/pepper spary is kind of dangerous? I wanted one, but my mom discouraged me by telling me that the spray is unreliable because of wind conditions. The spray can go either way; your face or your attackers. And it'd take a while to get it out of your purse when your in a situation.
