Woo! Look at you blue!

My neighbor let me hold his shotgun... I don't remember what it was, but it was so hard to even hold the **** thing, it was so heavy. I'm sure it would have knocked me on my ass if I fired it.

This seems like a good thread to ask this question... I was thinking getting a gun for personal protection... a handgun. But I know nothing about guns, seriously... what would you guys recommend for personal protection for a girl, and where the hell do you go to learn how to use the **** thing? Is it hard to get certified for concealed carry? They just passed a concealed carry law in Ohio...
Just my personal opinion. If you dont have a serious ammount of time to get to a competitive level I wouldnt mess with hand guns for home or self defense. Most people who have purchased firearms for self protection dont get enough time using them to get proficient. That creates a serious problem if you are attacked by a skilled person. I have shot a lot of rounds and I still would chose a shotgun for home protection and an edged weapon for self protection. Knives are so lethal in the hands of someone with some knowledge of anatomy.
Try this with your boyfriend. Take something like a paper towel tube and have him try to get into arms reach without you being able to slice a vital area. Then try using a squirt gun in your pocket while he is 20 feet away and see if you can make a vital hit before he closes the gap.

Ild get a Ruger 10/22 FA if I could afford one.

Answer my question when was your firearm assembled?
Now that would be something to behold. Cycle rate on that would be like a mini gun

i dont know when it was assembled in the 80s I think.
With all the hoops that have to be jumped though for a leagle transfer you should have the paper work stating the date the firearm was registerred with the BATF.

hmmmm... I wouldn't have thought you would have said that.

I take your advice seriously though. Like I said, I don't really know a thing about guns... if you don't think it's a good idea, it's probably not a good idea...

I'd be afraid to get a knife though, they would probably end up stabbing me with it.

I think I would feel much more comfortable with a knife and a baseball bat as home protection, that way I don't have to worry about stray bullets or bullets going through walls and hitting loved ones.

I do like going target practicing, and I'm debating going deer hunting with a guy I know...I grew up too indoctrinated with "Bambi" to feel comfortable killing a deer and then the animal lover/semi-vegetarian side of me pitches a fit as well. I figure if I get one then I can learn to like venison and Sawyer will have something tasty in his bowl in addition to kibble.

I'm vegetarian, but I don't have a problem with hunting, as long as you eat it. It's much more humane than factory farming. But I don't like hunting for "sport" or fur.

21 step rule. If somebody is less than 21 one steps from you you will have a hard time stopping them with a firearm before they can do damage with a edged weapon. I believe that is the standard most police training uses for the use of deadly force, I could have missunderstood.

The carotid artery and the arterys supplying the limbs are very shallow it doesnt take much of a cut to make a lethal wound. If you dont know these areas and wont commit to going all the way through with it you shouldnt use a weapon. You are exactly right if you are scared, not commited or un practiced you should avoid them IMO.

I think mace would be very effective as well, because unlike a bullet it dissapates in the air so there's a wider range for potential damage. And depending on the kick your gun has, you won't have time to squeeze off another valid shot before the attacker is on you.

Hmmmm... is there anyone who could teach me these things?
Im sure there are folks that will be happy to for a fee. I love to see women get into self defense! Hand to hand and with weaponry. There is no need to ever be a victim unless you allow it. If no one allows it the number of perps would decline drastically
