Ok, first of all that was some pretty amazing alliteration in the title. You guys should all be worshipping me. :lol-sign:

In all seriousness, though, I'm in serious need of a long line. I need to work on Crystal's recall (badly, I wish I would've done this when she was a pup, but I was dumb back then.) and need a long line to aid in training. But there is so many lengths and I am so clueless. I see the most common ones are 15ft, 30ft, or 50ft, and I never know which to get. I think I might get the 50ft, but I'm worried about it getting too tangled. I'm definitely not getting the 15ft, as I think that is too short. I need your opinions, people. What length should I get?

I have a 15' and a 30'. I wanted to start shorter without getting too tangled, but honestly I don't really like either one that much and would probably just get one around 20' if I were doing it all over again.

I think Frodo's is about 50' long, and I made Siri's first one about...20' ish? She'll have to earn a longer one :)

I had 3 50 ft lengths that unfortunately I loaned to a "Friend" and never got back. THey will have to be replaced if I ever go through another Pepper again.:(

I have a 25' and I love it. :) Perfect for recall training, exercising dogs that are bad on a leash, etc.

Now I'm really thinking about getting 2, a 20-30ft one and a 50ft one. Man I really am indecisive, ahaha. I'm thinking 50ft would be better though, because it is better to end up with a leash that's too long than too short, right?

That stinks. :( I hate it when people borrow things and never give it back to the original person.

I have a 50' and a 30'. It mostly depends on where you are working and how good you and your dog are with ropes. I got the 50' because for the first year of Kim's life we lived in an apartment with a big unfenced grassy area (120' x 700' or so) and it was nice to let her wander on it. But I worked with horses for years and was very rope conscious, and Kim was smart about them and figured out quickly how to untangle herself, backtrack around trees, etc.

If you have a dog who is prone to charging/running, do NOT get a long one, or choke up on it until you have better voice control. They hit the end at speed and you can really hurt your dog or yourself.

The longline would be used around grassy areas and near a lake, mostly. I don't think trees would be a concern in the area I'm thinking of. I'd like to say that Crystal is pretty leash conscious, as she won't charge/run on leash, but I'm not sure how she would react on a long line. Thanks for the tips and information. :)

This is how Jackson is. I have a 50ft one and most of the time, he's pretty conscious about not getting tangled, etc. Of course it happens sometimes.

But we also live on 3 acres, unfenced, so the 50ft is nice. Sometimes I think about getting a second 20 or 30 foot one so make it longer. But when we play fetch, I just let him drag it.

I love my 50' line. I use it in the yard, at fields/parks, and at the lake. However a shorter one might be better for the woods where lots of roots, sticks, and little trees like to tangle the long line.

I have a 20-30ish one. It's a great tool. I, would, however like to have a longer one for Simi... Just curious now, where did you all purchase yours? (sorry to sort of derail).

Hardware store. 100' poly rope + 2 clips = ~$10 back when I got mine.

I use a 30ft cotton lunge line. I don't think I'd want to go any longer - I think 25 would be even better. Quinn is good off leash though so I only really use it at my boyfriends house (unfenced, close to the road) or busy trails where dogs must be on leash. 80% of the time I just let her drag it.

I personally am thinking about ordering mine online, but I'm still unsure. I'll probably end up going with a cheap option, LOL.

I got my 50' at Petsmart, you can see it on the website (I can't copy and paste on my tablet but if you go to the collar and leashes section, then click leashes, then click training it is the "Grreat Choice Poly Training Lead for Dogs").

Mine is identical to the one from PetSmart except I bought it at the hardware store and it only cost $4.99... then I bought a second on clearance this summer for $2.99. I only have the 25' because it was for starting Auggie in a small pen on sheep; the second is for P to use at the lake. I don't think he's going to be making any 25'+ jumps haha. So I don't need a 50' one.
