Gorgeous dogs. I love the variety in their colors and coats.
That black one is STRIKING. As are all of them Lovely dogs, lovely pics <33
This and the other racing photo are my two favorites!
What's the difference between a WLD and a short-haired littermate?
Beautiful shots Dek!
omg i want dragonfly!
Something inside of me just died a little that I can't cuddle that puppy.
Dekka, your photography.... I am just SPEECHLESS. Wonderful, wonderful photographs - many of them are definitely worth framing. I mean, you of course had GORGEOUS subjects to photograph - better than any model - but you could have been taking pictures of dirty tires and I'd still be in awe. :hail: Some of the lure coursing shots literally took my breath away, and the stills and portraits are awesome!
Those are such beautiful dogs. I have always loved whippets, but these are something else.
Wow, beautiful dogs. I didn't know whippets came with long hair. Tell me more about them please.
Oh my goodness that brindle puppy has turned my heart to mush. I want now.
Great shots, looks like a super fun day all around!
Ok you have long haired whippets, and Whippets of long haired descent (WLD) and CKC/AKC whippets. The difference is that the genes that make the hair are recessive.
So you breed a LHW to a (ch) AKC/CKC whippet you get WLD. They have more hair than your typical KC whippet (but those can have fringing too). If you cross a WLD and LHW you get mostly LHW. Both LHW and WLD are registered with the LHW club. The WLD are very important in the breeding program. It is important to bring in new genes in the form of top KC whippets.
The little brindle pup (mark took that pic-I was off buying 100s of pounds of raw) was the only survivor of a premature litter.
I adore sighthounds so much.
what fabulous pictures--thanks for sharing them!
How sad for the breeder..
I can't pick out a specific LHW pic to comment on, so I will say this: I thought it was hysterical how you posted "oh and this isn't a whippet" before all teh non whippet pics.
well they are not whippets, and I didn't want anyone to get confused as the titles specified it was a specialty.
LOL! Reading this, the movie (& one of my faves) "The Ugly Dachshund" popped into my head as the Dane thought he was a Dachshund and they had to explain to someone that the dog was not from the litter of Dachshunds.
Thanks for the explination, Dekka!
*secretly covets a LHW*
