Hello Everyone!

Well the fifteen hours didn't seem so bad on the way but wow on the way back
with seven dogs in the car it seemed to take a whole lot longer!

We ended up with six Afghan Hounds and one Great Dane! we got a lot of strange looks when we stopped to let the dogs out to go potty at rest stops. We got a lot of comments about the Afghan hounds!

Thankfully along the way the car load got smaller - we dropped the Dane off at her new home!

The three boys went to another foster home here in Arizona. One of them has already been adopted! another one of them has an adoption pending. The third is a hard case that will take several months to rehab, poor boy. He is *terrified* of people.

The three girls came home with us! we'll be keeping one of them though we haven't decided which one yet.

We have Dharma, a 10yr old blonde girl that really needs a quiet retirement home and we have her two daughters Rosemary (Brindle) and Cassiopeia (mostly black) - they are 18mo's old and cute as can be - especially Rosemary though Cassiopeia has the better coat.

You can see pictures of the dogs here!

and pictures of the trip here:

We were really glad to be able to get the dogs out of a situation that was not remotely ideal. We were also glad to get home though! I'm not sure who I missed more the human kids or the four legged ones.

glad to hear that everything went smoothly! Not a clue how you managed to fit 7 dogs into a car! Good luck with the fosters.

We fit them in pretty easily! we have a twelve seat full size van! we bought it so we could fit all of our dogs in the car at the same time. For this trip we took the back sets of seats out and just filled it with crates.

OMFG if I had space for another dog, I'd be adding that brindle girl to the pack :) I love love love Afghans, when I add a sighthound that'll be it. Thank you for the rescue work you do !

That must have been an interesting trip, hehe. Glad it's all worked out and that everyone got there and back safe and sound!

Wow, never knew there were so many afghans that needed rescuing.
There's dogs of just about every breed that need rescuing. :(

All the dogs are settling in fine - better than expected really. There is a little bit of friction but when you introduce three new dogs to an established pack there is bound to be some jostling for order. There has been far less friction than I thought there would be honestly!

The brindle girl "Rosemary" Is bossy, devious, sneaky, talks back when you tell her to do something, picks on the other dogs and generally thinks she's the queen of the universe. Of course we adore her!

Cassiopeia just wants to be loved on - she is *starved* for affection! The older girl Dharma is doing fine but is a bit slower to adapt to the household just because of her age and the ordeal of such a long trip! poor thing.

All of them are getting along fine with cats - completely ignoring them which is a boon.
They also *adore* the kids - which is great. Though my girls have grown up around lots and lots of dogs since I use to regularly foster for three groups so they are more dog savvy than a lot of adults are.

The scared abused boy is improving daily - his foster dad was able to take his muzzle off today! One of the other boys went to his new home last night and his new Dad is extremely nice. All unasked for he sent us a donation towards our gas costs! which will go into the spay and neuter fund for the girls.

I've been getting a lot of flack in the rescue community because we cannot immediately spay them but the trip to Colorado to get them cost a little over $800 (gas, food, hotel, supplies) and we're tapped until next pay day.

Was that one neutered before adoption?

I'm not sure - we are leaving that up to the people helping with the "Couches for Afghans" project - which is not a rescue in the traditional sense. I keep calling them "rescue" dogs because that is what I feel they are. However the official term that Couches for Afghans is using is "breeder release" or "rehomed dogs" due to a lot of politics between Afghan rescue groups.

The boy went to a home that has a two year old un-altered male Saluki, the gentleman in question has owned sight hounds for over twenty-five years now. I'm not the one that set up the "rehome" though so I do not have all of the details. I do believe that people can be great dog owners without altering their dogs - if they are responsible about not letting "accidents" happen.

So you are not going to be putting these up on ebay pets trying to make money off of them? Like you have in the past with dogs you just happened "to find"?

Well they are up on Ebay classifieds but we're *not* actually asking an adoption fee for them, just an application, home check, ref check and adoption contract. Since we have already put $800 into them and it'll be another $300-$400 to get them vetted, I don't think anyone can accuse us of "making money" off of them. Though honestly we may send them out on spay contracts and in the case of the older girl a dental contract depending on the adopter. As I am not a rescue just a private party, I don't get reimbursed for anything.

However since I am obviously not welcomed on the board, I will take my leave. I'm not going to start some kind of flame war with people who have been here longer and obviously do not like me.

Thank you to everyone who sent good wishes to the Afghan hounds!

I have no idea what the back story is on this, and frankly, don't want OFD (Other Forum Drama) on the board, but personally, if someone gets dogs into good homes and keeps them from living in kennels for ages, or getting put down just for being surplus, I'm not going to take them to task for recouping some -- or even all of the expenses. That allows them to continue the process.

I have to agree with this. Isn't the main objective for the dogs, is to be placed in loving forever homes?

I wrote up something like this, but you put it in better words.

Bea, please do not let one person ruin the forum for you.

So its ok to find a stray and then post them on kijiji for sale the same day? Without trying to find the owner? Its ok to get new pups and then sell off your older ones again and again?

What are you talking about? You keep letting accusations fly, and I thought I was just out of the loop, but it seems no one else knows what exactly you're referring to, either. How do you know this person, and how do you know it's them that's done the things you're speaking of?

Again, please keep drama from other forums OFF of here. If you have an issue, you can PM the person and speak to them privately about it. Attacking them is not going to help anybody.

Seems to me like it is drama from another forum being brought on here  I thought at first too I was just out of the loop :lol-sign:
