I guess the SPCA has been keeping an eye on this breeder for a little while. She breeds/shows Springer Spaniels and Old English Sheepdogs. She had 70 dogs....can you imagine, they had to take away 70 dogs. They were a mess!
It seems to be a trend starting with some professional show/breeders losing their dogs due to neglect.
I got to see these dogs yesterday, about 15 of them are at the Vet clinic where my Sister owns her grooming business. Plus there are some pups upstairs in isolation which are only about 3 weeks old. Surprising as it may seem all the dogs are very sweet, laid back etc. I see this often in neglected dogs, they really want attention and don't go awall trying to get it. One of the young pups which was out with about many adults in a small kennel at the breeders home has welts and cuts, abcesses etc all over it's small little face. I heard the pup was being trampled and bitten by the adults.
I was so mad when I saw the state of these dogs...sickening is the only word I can find to describe it. All the other dogs were divided up, some went to the SPCA centre and the rest went to a boarding kennel with a girl who keeps runs available for the SPCA.
The girls and my Sister all volunteered their services to clean the dogs up and groom them. They were covered in feces, mats, their skin is a mess, ears are infected and they were so stinky. The SPCA officers stunk and were a mess just from being inside the breeders home. It was horrible.
It's quite sad as just a few months previously a show person with Alaskan Malamutes lost her dogs to the SPCA. Those dogs were also a mess, lived in a small apartment...she had 6 dogs. The neighbors started complaining of the stink coming from this apartment. When the dogs were taken the apartment had to be fumigated. The floors had to be scraped as they feces were packed on the floor. This lady had been an avid supporter of the CKC kennel club, showed/obedience trialed her dogs and was respected in the dog world.
I find this so disheartening and very sad
