My yellow lab, who is about 10 years old, is getting these little tumor like things on her side. They feel like they are just made of fat, and there are about three of them on her sides and tummy. Are these normal? My dad says old labs have a tendency to get them, but he doesn't really know much.

I see them quite a bit on older dogs, labs and Mini Schnauzers especially. Most of the time they are just fatty benign tumors, though if you are worried, then by all means have your vet take a look. I just call them "old lady/man bumps".

My dog started getting them around the same age. That's exactly what they were - fatty tumors. You can ask the vet about them next time your in for an appointment.

We have a 6 year old lab, and she has one fatty tumor, we took her to the vet, and she said its nothing to worry about. We should just keep checking to see that you can move it around, that it doesn't get bigger, or that it doesn't get hard. If that should happen then we should take her in to see the vet again.

Ilsa has a few - fatty lipomas are very common in Dobes. I initially have them aspirated, but they always come out being benign wads of "Ilsa grease" as my vet calls them. Then, I just keep an eye on them to make sure they don't get any bigger, or if they become "attached" - any change in the size, consistency, or mobility of the lump... and we're back at the vet, for another testing of the "Ilsa grease".

Mary has whole bunchees of them at 14. AS long as they move around you should be ok. The vet needle checked Mary since Bronki had cancer just to make sure.
