What do you think? Her rescue papers say rhodesian/lab. (obviously no ridge) I can see that, but I'll never know for sure. The guessing game is fun though. :) Here's some supplementary info: She's got a very short, single coat. She's extremely quick and agile, takes a lot of running to even get her panting! She's 7 months old now and about 45 lbs. Hard to see in the pictures I have, but she has a wide chest, very cat-like paws, not like a lab in the slightest, a white tipped tail, white on her chest, and a red and white flecked coat. The funny thing is that the rescue we got her from has had several dogs that look EXACTLY like her in the past couple years. I've had some people tell me that a very unethical rhodesian breeder in the area has been known to discard of ridgeless puppies. So if that's the case, she may be either a discarded pup or a mix of a stray litter of one of them. Especially considering the several other strays, like her, that have been found that look identical.

Lilly at 4 months:

I see Rhodie/Lab. She looks like my friend's Rhodie/Lab mix, except he's a big beefy boy and she's obviously much more feminine.

She definitely looks like a ridgeback mix to me for sure. Not exactly pure ridgeback, but pretty close.

She could be a ridgeless rhodesian. She also could be a ridge/lab mix. Its hard to tell. I would lean more towards the ridgeless rhodesian than the mix.

Pops2: Fl. I hadn't considered that, but you're right she does have that look.

Thanks for the opinions guys. People call me crazy when I say rhodie mix. They say "aren't they a little uncommon to be thinking that?" But in reality, I've seen several come through our shelter. People don't realize that while at one time in the recent past, they were rather uncommon, there has been a recent spike in rhodie breeding in the US.

not a lot of Lacys outside of TX, OK, AR & LA. so it shouldn't be too hard to find out if there are any hogdoggers or cattlemen in your area w/ them. since they are commonly called blue lacy they might dump the reds thinking they aren't pure. or he may have had a bad experience w/ a red and be passing them off to be pets & the new owners aren't prepared to deal w/ a working dog personality.

This is what I was thinking. We got her from Alabama, a rescue there. More likely to have lacies in AL, I think. I'm going to have to do some research. She's most definitely a working dog, and no doubt a scenthound. Her nose never leaves the ground. Personality wise though, she's great. She does require a lot of stimulation, both physical and mental, throughout the day, but since our household revolves around our dogs, that's not too bad for us. I've always thought she looked rhodesian, however at 7 months and only weighing in at about 40 some odd lbs, that's a little small for a rhodie. Looking at these: (snagged these pics from blue lacy sites)

This is wow to me... the striking similarity. Thanks pops for pointing this out, I am now almost positive that she is a red lacy. Her size never made sense.. and being that lacies are 30-50 lbs, she's right in that range!

And comparing them to our Lilly:

Thanks for the opinions, guys! I contacted a Lacy breeder and sent pictures and a description and the response I received was that she definitely looks Lacy! Pretty neat to have a good idea of what she may be!

Thanks Pops for that wonderful guess!!!

My daughter's SO has two very similar looking dogs. I sent this page to her & she replied that" their two might be ridgeless RR. One is from the shelter in Cedar Rapids, Ia., the other from shelter in Rockford, Il. Both taken to shelters are strays and are young. He is a big 80 lb. beefy dog. She is more feminine. Both play and run, jump and retrieve all day. They entertain and tease each other. They are escape artists and both extremely smart and quick to learn. He hunts and likes to go into water. She probably will. She does not appear to be a year old yet. Fantastic personalities and really do not shed. If their minds are not occupied, they will make their own fun" I don't know how to attach photos to this but she sent me several that look just like Lillie.

I want to see, miss pugg! I use photobucket for my pictures and just paste the img code in the post and they show up. I'm technologically challenged, that's my cheater way. LOL

I would be sold on the RR mix if she were bigger.. but she's about 7-8 months old and only 45 lbs. I can't imagine she'll get big enough to be an RR! That was the most similar thing I could find until pops suggested a Lacy and wow, the similarity is striking!

Want to see pics of your daughter's furbabies! :)

Lillie

I have no idea how to post photos here (sorry, I'm old). If you could send me your e mail address, she could e mail them directly to you. My address is [email protected]. She just sent me 2 or 3 pix. Reba was very thin when she came from the shelter & you can see her ribs. What is a Lacy dog? Is this a breed? thanks

A Lacy is indeed a breed :) They are called Blue Lacy Curs and they are medium sized hunting dogs. If you look at the first page of this thread, about 3/4 the way down the page I posted some pictures of a couple Lacy's and a couple of my dog, Lilly to compare. They're pretty neat!
