Maybe someone here can help me. I'm lost and the humane society doesn't know...

I'm a truck driver that drives through all 48 states and parts of Canada, all while my two pups navagate lol.

Now my problem is, sometimes I have to let my truck idle while I sleep, especially overnight on cold or hot nights, or when I'm not around to let my pack out for fresh air. AND some states (including New York) have anti-idle laws for semi trucks where we are not allowed to idle for more than 5 minutes.

Yes, this means the dogs would have to suffer, or I take a $500 ticket for idling, everytime.

Aren't their any pet laws that can overstep this?? I mean people go to prison for making an animal suffer in a hot car! and the government is making my dogs suffer by not letting me idle my tuck in certain states. Now of course I let the windows down, and have plenty of fresh water and a fan going, but it wont do, the truck needs to run with the AC on.

Does anyone here know about pet laws? or of there's a number I can call?? I'm sorta lost at this point.

Thanks to anyone that can help me.

I am not sure either. But I think a pet law should override this idle law. Sorry I am not much of a help here.

I've never thought of this !!! My dogs have always gone with me , but I turn off the motor ( for groceries etc ) and leave windows opened . In summer all 5 plus sunroof are opened . ( enough so heads can go out ) If it's not too hot for me , I feel they're OK . Yes, I lock doors and in the winter I've never worried about being too cold . Kudos to you for having your dogs with you and caring !! Will be anxious to see the laws !!! Environment vs animal abuse !

yep it will be exciting to see how it plays out.

And thanks for the kudos, but apparently not enough drivers care, because it seems I am the only trucker bringing it up.

If I ever get a ticket for idling my semi, I am going to bring someone from the ASPCA to help me fight the courts - I'll even take it national with the media if I need to! not to mention I have a great lawyer..

...I'd like to find the pricks that make these laws, and take them down to Texas, put them in my black semi truck during the middle of sumer, and leave them there for a few hours while I eat, shower, and do laundry... I guarantee they wouldn't even make it 30 min in the sun! - infact they would probably look something like this if they were inside the sleeper ––> :yikes: lol!

Until you can find some "loop holes" in the law, would it be possible to get a generator for your truck? Honda makes a great generator that is almost silent, I know several people who use them for their motorhomes and trailers when there aren't any hookups available.

You can beat your head against the wall trying to fight New York's pollution laws. Rots O Ruck.

However, if you are a big corporation that blows toxic waste out of your stack, you might have a chance.

I know nothing about the laws, but I remember seeing a product that you stick in your window, which is battery operated, and works like a backwards fan, sucking the hot air out of your car. I can't remember what it's called, though. If I find it I'll let you know!!
