I don't have lucid dreams very often. Sometimes in the middle of a vivid dream, I'll just suddenly become aware, and instead of waking up, I manifest it.

So last night, I was dreaming about the zombie apocalypse. Matt and I were kicking zombie ass. And suddenly, I was aware. And didn't wake up.

Was a very interesting, fun, and somewhat scary night. And the oddest bit? I feel exhausted today. My muscles feel like I ran all night. Sucks, because I have to work today!

How exciting! I've only had a few lucid dreams in my life, and they're always terribly short. Count yourself lucky, not everyone has experiences like these!

Plus if you've had a lucid dream, you're more likely to have another. :)

How fun, I've only ever had one lucid dream. I was sitting in a beergatrden with my friends and suddenly relised I had never seen this place before, thought it might be a dream. Tried to fly and could and then woke up. Would love to get to do it more often.

I had them more when I was younger. mostly when it happens I turn to "myself" -as if a character were talking directly to me from a tv screen-and say "this is only a dream..." then I can control things more

I have them quite often complements of Wellbutrin and Buspar.

I hate the ones where I try to wake up out of it and do, only to realize I really didn't. It will take me forever to get myself out of it and by then I'm in panic mode.

Yeah, mine are often when I take Benadryl to help me sleep... which I did last night. LOL.

I've been there with the panic. Once I'm lucid, it becomes near impossible to wake myself up within the dream. Outside stimuli, like my wake-up alarm, has to happen.

I sometimes have these every night for multiple nights in a row, multiple times throughout the night...I end up panicky all day and constantly confused as to whether or not I'm dreaming :(

I had much more pleasant lucid dreams always as a child...my dreams were never NOT lucid.

I have lucid dreams quite often. I actually had one about the zombie apocalypse too the other day lol. I end up doing "redos" in dreams a lot - if I didn't like the way something played out I'll wake myself up and when I fall back asleep it's before the icky part happens. Usually I just have crazy random dreams though, not necessarily bad ones.

Allie - did something trigger your zombie dream? I've had a couple randomly but I know that my last one was from watching The Walking Dead right before I fell asleep. Others have been triggered by re-reading WWZ.

Nothing specific triggered it, no. We had a brief conversation at our staff meeting about how we would each survive the zombie apocalypse, but that's it... I watched all of season one of Walking Dead in one night, no zombie dream. I have a brief convo with co-workers and a benadryl to help me sleep, and BAM. LUCID APOCALYPSE.

(Sleeping meds of any sort tend to make my dreams more likely to be lucid, but even then it doesn't happen often.)

Part of me wants to harness the lucidity so it happens more often, but I always feel tired after lucid dreaming, and I worry about lucid nightmares. I would have to have a wake-up failsafe.
