my 4 mnth old black lab and i fly back to the states from chile tonight. i had decided that it is better not to sedate her bc of the momevment on the plane, but give her a tranqualazar to take the edge off. now i am thinking maybe just sedating her is better? we fly tonight at 11 pm from santiago and 10 hours later land in texas. a vet checks her and her paperwork and then four more hours to seattle. does anyone have any recommondations to make her flight better, or on the sedation bit??

This is going to be a tough call for you. You need to weight out the risk on sedation vs. tranqualizing your dog against the benefits on both. Since this flight is going to be 10 hours long.... it's going to be tough.

If you take the sedated route: Your dog will be okay for the first several hours until the sedation wears off. How do you think your dog will do the last 6-7 hours of the flight?

If you take the tranqualizer route: You can experience some reactions including your doing being more excited and agitated...... unless you know from previous experience how your dog reacts to being tranqualized, I wouldn't take this route.

P.S. It would be a good idea to freeze the water inside the water bowl attached to the crate.... prevents the water from spilling during the first part of the flight (take off and taxi) and should defrost in time for when your dog gets thirsty.......

Good luck!
