My dog appears to be allergic to poultry. I have tried her on several foods, and the only ones she does better on are Lamb and Rice based with no chicken or turkey. Apparently she is also bad with duck. I tried the Duck and Sweet potato treats form Natural Balance and she started itching again, with no other changes in diet. I haven't been daring enough to try her on a wholly chicken based food, though I might take a sample of innova from my new pet store and see if high quality chicken is less of a problem.

The only Lamb and Rice high quality food I can find is California Naturals, but it is giving her unbelieveable gas. No other problems with it. Anyone have a cure for the gas?

Or alternately, anyone know of another only Lamb and Rice based dog food of high quality?

She was on Nutro's Lamb and Rice for over a year with very few problems, but runny stools, which has largely disappeared on Cal Naturals. I blame that chicken fat in Nutro.

Anyone have any other ideas for food?

Am not an expert, but have you tried adding some yoghurt (low fat kind) to her food? It helped my dog with gas problem. After taking it, she dun have it anymore. I add 2 tablespoon every morning to her food.

She gets organic plain yogurt about once a week mixed in, very little appreciable differance in smell.

you could try a probiotic supplement to see if it fixes the "gas" problem. in many dogs it works wonders. look for something like NOW brand acidophilus 4x6 powder, you want something that lists at least several billions CFU (colony forming units) instead of just a few millions. feed half the human dose.

in case that doesn't help, here are some other suggestions for lamb & rice foods of good quality, but i can't guarantee they make a lot of difference - california natural has the most simple formulation and the best ingredient quality.

if you need manufacturer info & web addresses for any of these, just click on the "Flat" link near the top of the page and then scroll all the way up.
