hi. i'm new here, and really desperate. we adopted a 4 mos. old puppy last week from the humane society, apparently a lab mix. i do not see any lab traits whatsoever, and i am not completely sure what breed it is. i suspect oit might be a lab mixed with a patterdale terrier, but am not completely sure. like patterdales, she is pretty listless when inside and always wants to go out unless she's forced in her crate, and she loves to crawl under dark spaces, like under the bed or the couch. a picture, if anyone has a hunch:

here's a patterdale:

i've had experience with my friend's (pure) labrador before, but i don't see even the slightest characteristic of that breed, except that she loves to chase after her toy if i throw it. oh and her tail is long too.

also, she's pretty unruly. she doesn't respond to voice tones, and doesn't seem to recognize both gentle and stern voice. sometimes she bites when we try to pet her. i thought this was because she was playing, but her tail doesn't wag. she constantly tries to chew the leash, and the stern voice doesn't deter her. i do think she's pretty smart because she's sucessfully housebroken, but this might be because of her previous owners. then again, on thr infor it says she hasn't recieved any previous training.

i'm really overwhelmed i don't know what to do. puppy class/obedience training is tuesday, but i can't wait because i really think she doesn't like me.

ps: the collar is ther eb/c she was just neutered and she keeps licking the wound. she stopped doing that yesterday, so i took it off

Please give your puppy some time to adjust to new people and a new home.

Your class coming up in a few days will help.

Meantime, be kind, gentle, and understanding with her. She's in a new home, with new people, having just had surgery, etc.

yup thanks. i said patterdale b/c of the uncanny resemblance but i didn't think of the soze cause i thought that other pic was a patt. puppy, not a full grown =( i'm really curious what other breed she might be. jack russell was another hunch but hse's probably part stray or something.

thanks redyrpttweillers, i'm being very very gentle and caring toward her. i love her, i was just worried that she hated me. i'm not sure i'm even training her right, just doing what the books say. hopefully the biting habit will wane off. i can't wait till the class, i'm just really overwhelmed. =<
