Anyone have any actual experience with them? How do they compare to tollers other than obviously being smaller? I hear they also have more health problems due to a smaller gene pool.

Yeah, I keep finding more and more breeds that appeal to me the more I look. (Borders, Aussies, Pyr Sheps, Tollers, Shelties, etc) I should just stop until I can actually get a dog. Of course these are so uncommon here it's very unlikely I'd get one, it's just another breed that's stricken my fancy lately.

I'd love a Kooiker someday, but they're so hard to get... so I'll just stick to my Tollers for the time being. I've only ever met one briefly, but his owner told me they're a very sensitive/"soft" breed. After doing more research, it all basically said the same. They're supposed to be pretty intelligent too, and quite busy & active. Aside from that, I just know that they're very pretty, lol.

  8. Beautiful dogs.

How do you pronounce that name?

The website you posted the link for in post #3 says it's pronounced koy-ker-hon-dja.

I met one at the dog park the other day! Never posted pictures, but plan to. She was really laid back and careless; not sure if that was how she was or that's how the breed generally is.

Most toller people I know love them. LOL the look a lot like tollers only more white. I think they share similar heritage.

Have yet to meet one, but would love too as they are stunning dogs!

I've always had a major fascination for this breed too. I first met one at a dog show when I was a bit younger. I absolutely love them and would love to have one some day, but as Devan stated, they are definitely hard to find/get.

I fell in love with the breed when I was about 8 years old and reading a dog breed book, LOL. I've never met one in person but I hope I have the chance one day.

I had contacted a breeder in the US about them a few years back, but never recieved a response for some reason. Oh well, maybe some day! I'm at my dog limit now.

I meant to add this website earlier, but forgot. I figured it might interest some that would like to know more about the breed. There's a bit about their temperaments and whatnot on there.

A lot of people think that Kooikers played a major role in the Toller's development, being red & white, and the only other decoy breed. They used to share a lot of similarities temperament wise years ago too, and they still do, though there are apparently many differences now.
