Hey,

So I bought a red kong (small) for Gordy (8 month old Beagle).

I have been reading numerous sites to find the correct size for breed types, but each gives conflicting info. Some say small others say medium. I don't know which one

I have a feeling that it should be medium, and I have just realised I should probably be getting the puppy kong.

Anyone know what I should get, small or medium? I can still return the one I bought. I might go elsewhere and look for a puppy kong or is it okay to give the regular at 8 months+?.

Thanks.

Does it matter? Seriously, think about it--just buy the one that you think your dog will like the most.

Herschel prefers most "big dog" toys even though he is around 20 lbs.

With a Beagle, I would give a medium red kong (non-puppy) if I were you.

I'd get a medium if it were my dog. I won't even get a small for the Dachshunds - the small kongs are extremely small and the mediums just seem tougher. Also, I've never owned a puppy kong. All we've ever had was the black and the red ones, even when I had pups around.

I had a puppy kong for Chloe when she was younger but she was never interested in it, so I dont know how well they would work

most dogs couldn't care less about their kongs unless they're something in it... lol
I agree with the above posts... I'd go for the medium - I buy for the size the puppy is going to be when full grown (I don't buy 'puppy' toys too often)

Uh Herschel it probably doesn’t matter, I have never bought a Kong before, and thought there might be a reason eg. small is too hard to get treats out of.

When I bought the small it was on the medium rack, I got it home and realised it wasn’t medium. All the others were sold out except for the giant ones. It was going to be a Christmas pressie, but I took it back yesterday, and will wait until medium comes in.

But thanks guys. And thanks Brittana, I will get a reg.

Good Idea. It's safer to go with a bigger one, for the sake of him choking on a smaller one. Dixie, and Lucy the Yorkies have a small (that's actually almost too big for them!) and Zoey can't be around it because I don't want her to choke. She has a medium. Both are puppy kongs. Not for any particular reason, that's just what I saw 1st. ;)
