Do you know where I can find some fun Kong Ideas.

No Peanut Butter (I'm highly allergic so we don't even keep it in the house)

Currently I made one and I'm actually wondering how long it will take to freeze

filled the bottom up with kibble.....then I added a thin layer of yogurt....then some more kibble and a treat with a little more yogurt.

How long do you think it will take to freeze

I don't want it to be like popsicle frozen just enough so they can't eat it instantly and actually spend time playing with it

But if you can help me with some kong ideas and give me an idea on how long it will take for their current kongs to be ready that would be great
I've been doing it this way for awhile but I just can't seem to get it right (well as to what I would consider right)

Why don't you want it to be popsicle-like? I always make my kongs the night before and pop them in the freezer before I go to bed.

Another thing to try is melted cheese (nuke it in the microwave, then freeze it)

Honestly, anything they eat regularly can be stuffed in a food processor and used to fill a kong.

I don't want it to be popsicle like because I made it for them to settle them this afternoon. they are pretty hyper even after their walks (still missing daddy I think) and just wanted to give them something to do (Zack just deflated a tennis ball) Its more him than Sasha right not she is actually asleep but Zack is a little high strung at the moment. Normally when I want it popsicle like I make it the night before but this was just a calm him down for a bit last minute thing. (I wasn't even supposed to be out walking them today but I did anyway. The medicine I'm on for the allergic reaction tends to cause you to burn easy out in the sun.....My face is so red right now but my dogs needed a walk.)

Anyways I just want it frozen enough to settle him down for a few minutes until I can figure out what to do. (We've worked on obedience and such but he is so distracted today)

I'm confused...

A frozen kong will still "settle" a dog. My dog (and my foster dog) both dive right in to get their frozen kongs.

I think the issue is the OP wants the kong asap.. and doesn't want to wait for it to actually freeze..

exactly.

I want it frozen enough that they take some time with it but not to the point that I have to wait 24 hours

I went ahead and gave it to them about a half hour ago and they are still working on it......but Zack is still more interested in seeing what kind of trouble he can get into (this is not like him)

Oooh...gotcha. Well, then my advice would be to pick up another kong or two, so you can always have one in the freezer. It'll be easy to just pull it out and toss it to them rather than trying to stuff something in it and wait 10 minutes for it to thicken up.

In a pinch, I've used banana, but neither dog seems to like it as much as yogurt/cheese/peanut butter.

I think I'm up to 3 kongs.. have a monster mouth that takes treats, a tug a jug, buster cube and a genius leo. 2 of those take kibble or kibble sized treats only. Easy to load without prep time..

I sometimes keep a stuffed frozen one in my freezer for times of need like yours. Can't hurt to have an extra one.

Canned food is good to mix with the kibble in Kongs. I keep a can of Cali Natural chicken and brown rice on hand for the odd Kong stuffer. Freezes well, too.

Finn has four Kongs that I always keep filled in the freezer. He usually gets a Kong or two a day, plus some of his meals in tug-a-jugs and other self-entertaining fillable doodads.

Anything they like to eat is great to put in a kong!
No one has mentioned cream cheese, mine love that. As well as pieces of meat, chicken jerky, canned pumpkin...

Teehee! You said doodads. :D

I love my tug-a-jug!!! Fozzie had his treat ball figured out, and would hold it and shake all of the kibble out within minutes. Tug-a-jugs are really good for wearing him out and taking quite a bit more effort. I sometimes add some bits of cheese to the kibble to get him REALLY into it.

Treat-dispensing toys are very quick and convenient, when you don't have the time to stuff and freeze a Kong. You can fill them with kibble, small treats, bits of cheese/meat, bits of veggies/fruit, whatever your dogs like.

The kong products are so expensive and we are now just getting back on our feet so we will just have to continue to make due with the two kongs we have until things get a bit better. But its getting better slowly but surely. We are lucky to still have them on such good dog food. And that was a fight but I made a bet with my husband that in a months time if he didn't see a difference in dog food cost and their health and eating habits we wouldn't go with the higher quality food. Instead of having to by a bag a week 1 bag lasts us 1 month. For two dogs. So I won him over (this was before either one of us was out of work). I wasn't letting them go off the California Naturals no matter what when the finances got bad.

Hopefully in the next 2 months or so I can start spoiling my babies again with toys and stuff. I am wanting to get some more kong toys but it just has to wait right now.

We only have one Kong here, for the wee dogs. (Aesop doesn't do food toys) I use canned food a lot, since it isn't something they get regularly. (we still have part of a case from when Ginger was on gruel for her jaw issue) My dogs aren't big on peanut butter (and while I dont' mind eating peanut butter once in awhile, I can't stand the smell...go figure) and I don't keep a lot of yogurt around (again...don't like the smell...apparently I have scent issues:rolleyes:). Cream cheese would likely work well, as would the melted cheese.

Here when we want all four dogs to magically become invisible and tucked into their various favorite spots, we break out the frozen raw bones. I end up not seeing anyone for quite awhile:p

Understandable. I highly recommend investing in a few more Kongs as one of the first "pet splurges" when you get some money, though. Or some tug-a-jugs. They're worth their weight in gold!

No, but it's often a good idea to use the search thread before you post, to see if the same topic has been discussed recently. You may get your answers quickly that way :)

Its easier just to ask instead of sifting through threads that may or may not have the answers thanks though, I've never been good at searching for info.
