What do you put in your kongs? I usually just use peanut butter, but it's kinda messy with my guys. I've tried treats but they get those out to quickly.

Any ideas?

Sorry, no help here, I put peanut butter. Very messy, but like you, they get the treats out way too quickly. I haven't found any other option yet.

I've mixed treats/kibble in some peanut butter, yogurt and occassional mashed up banana, stuffed the Kong and then froze. That keeps them busy for quite some time.

My dogs pretty smart. She saw me do this one time and then had an idea of her own. I put her treats in kong and dropped it down on the ground. The drop loosened the treats and some fell out. Ever since my dog will take kong and hop up on the sofa and drop kong from the sofa to the ground loosening the treats.

All about the freezing. The class I took with Smudge this winter. The other dog owners in the class thought it was the bestest thing ever. I froze cheese whiz every week for him, and when we weren't being active in class used it to keep his attention on me.

I like cheese whiz, PB, yogurt, yogurt mushed with bananas.. and generally I freeze everything. As puppies it was too hard though and Cider would give up too easily. I also like some of the other toys we've bought.. The genius leo and the monster mouth can take a combo of things including harder treats and they take longer to get out.

I actually had to wipe the computer screen. I can just picture this. Maddie does things that I didn't even begin to comprehend she can do.

Back on track, I freeze vanilla yogurt with a couple a piece of her dog food at the top to keep it from leaking out.

Our dog isn't allowed on the sofa but she will drop kongs down the stairs or head toss kongs into the air to get an extra hard bounce to knock the treats out. That's why I don't put any really messy loose stuff in there anymore unless I have her in a down and can block her getting up. If those two tricks fail, she drops it in my lap so I can get the stuff out for her. Easy touch mommy.

RE what to put in them - We share a little of our dinner with her if she sits quietly and doesn't bug us while eating. Just little pieces of meat, vegetables &/or potato. She loves yam, green beans, cooked carrots and of course any meat we give her. She'll throw her entire repetoire of tricks for steak!

I usually make a "mush" with kibble soaked in water or broth.... soak it long enough for the kibble to get mushy, like the consistency of oatmeal. Then mix treats, peanut butter, yogurt, cream cheese, anything you can think of, with the mush, stuff it and freeze it. The more watery, the harder it'll freeze. If the dog has a hard time getting it out of the bottom of the kong, next time I'll put one or two biscuits in the bottom first, then the mush. If the mush is too watery I'll "seal" the ends with peanut butter or cream cheese to keep it from leaking in the freezer.

I also like to make "kong on a rope." Before stuffing the kong, stick a rope through the small hole and tie a knot to keep the string in there. Then stuff the kong, and when you're ready to use it you can tie the kong up on something to make it harder for the dog. It's a good one to do in the crate, or you can tie it to a piece of furnature or whatever. Especially for the dogs that just slam it down on the ground, now they have to figure out another way to do it! (Many times they just chew the rope off, but that's still ok.)

luce is a flinger. she just throws hers repeatedly at the floor until stuff comes out. whatever floats her boat, i guess.

i use all kinds of stuff- kibble, yogurt, cottage cheese, fruit, babyfood, canned food, leftovers, peanut butter. a whole milkbone stuffed in there is a bit of a challenge. sometimes frozen, mostly not because i forget.

i need to try tying them up.

Sometimes she seems brilliant but other times, like the other day she makes me think she's a special needs dog. She was licking the electrical wall outlet.
I think I just pulled something laughing. :rofl1:

I usually put in kibble/broken up biscuits, seal off the ends with peanut butter, and freeze it.
