Yup... Fat Dog finally had an encounter with a skunk.

She lost. She came inside, smelling of a skunk's butt.

Bathed her
Dried her
Soaked her in Tomato Juice
Let her sit for 20 minutes
Rinse
Wash, and dry again...

And now I *think* I have the smell gone. If not, we'll continue tomorrow with tomato juice baths...

Hopefully she'll figure out that Wood Pussies are NOT the best kind of pussy to play with...

Ooooooh gross.. we just had the same buttskunkdogsmell here last week, and had to round up the recipe for de-skunking.

Mix 1 quart of peroxide, 1/2 cup of baking soda and 2 tsp of dish soap (Dawn if you can find it, although we used Sunlight).

I dumped the rest of the box of baking soda in the bathwater, mixed, added dog, and rinsed him to get him wet first.

Then with a cloth/sponge/rag start to wash dog til your arms fall off.. lol.. leave wet dog standing in tub for about 10 minutes, unrinsed, and presto, all skunk smell is gone with rinsing. We did find that we couldn't use the peroxide mix on his face very well, and it still smelled a bit the next day, but I just re-did it again, with a wet cloth and the peroxide mixture, being careful of ears and eyes.

The neighbours Golden, Lady chased a skunk around the INSIDE of their rental house last summer.:yikes:. They were asked to move, and pay for repainting etc! They did the tomato bath on Lady, but found that every time she got wet, she smelled like a really bad Caesar (drink lol). It took 4 months before their previous home could be rented again ... lol
Good luck! Kym and Bernie(the not so curious beagle/husky!)

Cheap beer will get out the rest of the smell too. Bear got skunked once - he'd already killed the skunk but managed to spray himself when the threw the carcass up in the air and caught it to show me

He seemed to enjoy the beer part of the bath, lol.

Wonder if Kona will chase skunks again.

Oh that stinks,...sucks. lol

Blaze got sprayed last year when we were camping. imagine being stuck for 3 days with a super stinky dog in a tent. It took months for the smell to fully come off. it may have been becuase he stayed stinky for 3 days. But every time he went swimming you could smell it.

Oh, poor Kona and poor you! Luckily Lula has never gotten sprayed by a skunk with all the skunks we have around here........knock on wood...... hopefully she never will..... Don't want to jinx myself. LOL!

One time I accidentally ran over a road kill skunk with my truck and could not get the smell out for weeks........smelled up the whole garage too.....Yuck!

Hopefully, for your sake Kona won't be casing anymore skunks! Good luck!

I wouldn't doubt it. She's a smart girl, but when she is in her "hunting zone"... there's hardly any stopping her. I should have put her on her runner....

Anywho... Kona is good today. She smells of her oatmeal shampoo and tomato juice. It seems she didn't get sprayed in the face, her eyes wasn't irritated and she looks fine today also.

To anyone who lives out in the boonies like me... watch for skunks. You think the smell is bad when you hit one/ride by a dead one? This is much, much worse.

Next skunk I see out here (the ******* was prolly getting in my trash), I'm gonna shoot it. Even got permission from AC since there have been a few rabies cases this year.

lol wood pussies - don't think I've ever heard that term before. Is that something people in NC say?
Actually, Rob turned me onto that phrase awhile back... he said it came from his Grandpa. I've never heard someone say it until he said it too :lol-sign:
