I'd love to get a king cake for mardi gras, but most of the ones I've had (from grocery stores and stuff) are really gross - dry, no flavor, etc.

A few years ago (geez, probably about 9 or 10 years ago now), my friend who was from New Orleans, ordered a king cake from somewhere that was supposed to be really famous for king cakes... Like the place that all the locals knew as the best king cake place.

Of course, I have no idea what that place is. :(

But the cake was REALLY GOOD. Moist, good flavor, awesome icing. I just don't remember any specifics, especially where it was from, LOL.

So.... Suggestions on a really great king cake that can be ordered?

As a local , I would say these are two of the best!

Gambino's.

http://www.gambinos.com/shop/default.php

By far the best bakery ever.

or

Haydel's

http://www.haydelbakery.com/

Personally you cant go wrong with either . But Haydels still puts ceramic babies in there cake box. I think gambinos are plastic now.

Yes Mardi Gras is in full swing with Fat Tuesday fast approaching.
