It does not sound like you had much of a bond or love for your dog, so I hope you found her a good home. I remember the first time Bruno dropped a dead bunny at my feet, I was not happy but I know he is a dog.I cant imagine getting rid of one of my dogs for killing a rabbit, I like bunnys as much as the next person but they are not part of the family like my dogs. Oh well, hope you found her a good home.

dont matter now i just found a home for her this afternoon
shes gone and now i can start rebuilding my wildlife haven again

thanks for your advice that got me no where
no point in this topic anymore since the dog is elsewhere
It's not the dog's fault it was being a DOG. ALL dogs kill things, mine have a long track record. Do I like it? No. It just comes with the package. Heck, my mother's Chihuahuas kill little furry creatures. Maybe you should rethink dog ownership if you love wildlife so much.

You got good advice (keeping your dog on leash in the yard), it sounds like you just didn't want to make the effort. I hope the dog found a good home.

why have a huge fenced in yard to chain a dog down? she panicked you dont know, shes from a puppy mill she doesnt behave like other well bred dogs.
she didnt find dead animals she went and killed them. she doesnt just kill rabbits, its birds, frogs, mice, shrews, chipmunks, squirrels.
sorry if i feel for wildlife. this isnt just it with her either shes been eating her crap since day one, broke the door and screen, goes in the garbage non stop, goes to the bathroom in the house, chews my toddlers toys up that he cant even play in peace. it just never ends the list goes on, shes mental, its like shes not domesticated.
i had a pitbull for 10 years well bred from a breeder. he would kiss my hamsters and nuzzle them.
i would bet that if someone else purchased her that day at the petstore they would have gotten rid of her too.
you dont know what happened this morning. were all eating breakfast, we let the dogs out to go and within 3 mins i hear horrible sceams. we thought it was a bird, we look out and meadow has another baby rabbit. my children ran to the window in horror and started crying watching this baby get torn appart screaming in pain. is that nice for children to see?
no one can eat after that. my husband ran out and tried to get it from her but she wouldnt let go. she ate the whole thing within a few minutes, there was nothing left.
that was it i dont care anymore about this dog. how can i kiss a dog that eats her feces and wildlife? how can i feel love for this murderer? i can see if she only did this once in awhile but she must have killed over 100 critters in the past year. shes a pro
we put her in the car and took her to the shelter. she got car sick in the back and threw up the baby bunny, oh yeah what a site that was.
the shelter says they dont think they should have any problems placing her since shes small, young and very good looking.
i really dont care!
no one cares for those animals she killed? come on your all narrow minded and only care about dogs and dogs only.
i dont want a murderer in the house sorry. i want a nice peaceful home and thank god shes gone we can finally live again.
did i fail? no i didnt, she came from a bad place. she will get a home and maybe they'll like a killer but shes not for my family!
you want her? go get her ill give you the shelters number

You took her to the shelter, and did not find her a good Home? Shame on you. How will you sleep at night not knowing her fate?

It's not the dog's fault that you didn't do your research and bought a hunting breed. That's on you. It's also not the dog's fault that it's doing NATURAL dog behaviors, nor that you didn't want to work through its problems. I'm not saying it would be easy or that it wasn't very stressful, but you made a commitment when you purchased that dog.

You can't stop digging dogs from digging or water dogs from swimming. You can't stop hunting dogs from hunting. You can't change the behaviour that was bred into a dog.

That being said I'm glad you rehomed her to somewhere where she will be appreciated for what she was meant to do.

Hopefully you will stick with more laidback dogs in the future.

Now that is extremely offensive. I suppose that's why I also have a ferret and two cats.

You're missing the point. I love other animals. But dogs are MEANT to chase/kill other animals. You can't get mad at the dog, especially a hound, for doing what it is suppossed to do. It's like getting mad at a goose for swimming. That is why my hound is kept on a leash at all times whenever we're out and about...he would chase and kill a raccoon, squirrel or possum if he gets the scent. You can't blame the dog. It is up to you to either gain control of those instincts through training, or to limit your dog's access to other animals. It's part of being a responsible owner.

Given all the other issues you're having, it sounds to me like your beagle really needed training. That would have possibly helped the wildlife killing issue, too. You can't have an active dog like that and expect it to know how to behave.

You must be a vegetarian. I am but even I don't feel this way. There is a circle of life and I would much prefer that those animals lived their lives naturally and died naturally than what we do to them. You are very cold to say the things you do. Do you feed your dogs a vegetarian diet? How could you not care about the animals that go into their food? Yes you failed your dog. :(

1stly it isn't a case of no-one caring for the wildlife.
2ndly a dog killing wildlife would not be considered a Murder (it is thier nature to do so)
3rdly you found a reason to fault all the advice given to you.
4thly You still let your dog in the yard alone this AM and YOU allowed your children to the window to witness what you knew the dog was doing.
5th, this is not all about her instinct to Hunt.......but about a number of other things that you can't deal with.
Lastly........I think the dog is better off being re-homed!

That's crap.

Sorry. I rarely get riled by something, but as someone who gave you sound advice, did not make ANY snide remark to you, that's bullshite.

Narrow minded is thinking that a dog will train itself.

You clearly did no work with the dog, if it was still not house trained, and did all the things you say it did.

I am a great wildlife lover and ANIMAL lover (not just dogs). That being so, I understand there is a natural order in the world, and predators KILL and EAT the animals further down the food chain.

If you are so interested in wildlife - perhaps you have witnessed this. Birds eating flies, cats eating birds.

Did you buy your beagle on a whim? Last minute, snap decision? Because you clearly have not the time, not the effort, nor the understanding to have taken on such a breed.

It is not down to bad breeding that your beagle ate birds and shat in the house.

It is instinct and a bad upbringing.

Sorry. But why ask, if you clearly did not want the advice given.

i did the right thing for me and my family. there is no reason why we have to be subjected to those horrible masacre's
i can deal with her other problems but not this. its just too hard for us
we have a hamster and what if my daughters hamster ever got out of its cage? we would have a mauled pet! is that ok? no its not
she cant be broken of this habit, its not possible. she wants to kill and she wants to eat it, its like candy to her. she wakes up in the morning dying to get out so she can do this. she lives for it
and like i said we saw her in a petshop. i know the beagle traits but like i said again i never knew anyone whos beagle did this. i figured shes from a petshop and cant have this strong trait. i thought it was selective breeding that brings this out and hunters look for this. i knew she would be puppy mill so i figured theres no way this trait was selectively bred in her.
and i worried often about my 4 cats. she has played rough with them before, she grabs them by the neck and shakes them. i got her out of this months ago and she knew to leave them alone. but sometimes when i was in another room i heard a cat groaning and sure enough meadow had it by the neck.
what if we woke up one morning to find one of our cats killed? i have to think of others safety.
she was very jealous of my pekingese. she would pounce on him and not let him eat or drink. i had to keep the seperate most of the time.
my pekingese knows shes gone and i can see it in his eyes hes thanking me.
we were all tormented by this dog in one way or another.
i have a family to devote my time to. i tried to get trainers to come to my house i was told numorous times no one makes house calls.
she gets sick in the car, bad diarhea and vomiting, that in its self would have been an ordeal.
please understand were im coming from. i just want peace again, i havent had that in a year that we've owned her.
please realize this, i couldnt handle it. i bought her i know but its done i couldnt go back to the petstore months later and say "here i cant keep her"
i failed at this dog yes, but i have my four cats and wonderful well bred pekingese that bring me nothing but joy
i cant win at everything
i learned now, no more petshop puppies and no more sporting or hunting breeds. when the time comes again to get another puppy ill know only to get dogs bred for companion only. no herders etc
no hard feelings, im sorry for harsh words but im very very upset. this was one of the worst things i had to go through in my life, and i did learn from it
:(

Fair enough I'm glad you've learned from it. Maybe you can keep track of her at the shelter and make sure she doens't get put to sleep or sent to a bad home.

Anyway, I think enough has been said here and a lot of people are upset. Should probably let it rest now.
