I am certain Dekka wasn't directing the "crap food" comment towards YOU Berry, LOL. TOTW & Acana are NOT crap foods..........she was just speaking from past experience, HERE and possibly in her real life of people who say their dog/pet can't eat a better food because it makes them ill or whatever reasons they offer.

I would agree with her on that..........if a better food without chemicals, fillers, and by products makes your dog ill, I would attempt to find out WHY that is and work on it until I found a healthier choice my dog COULD eat. Me, personally, MY dogs, LOL

(again, not directed at you Berry LOL)

ETA: lol yes that is exactly what I meant Coop :)

I didn't mean to imply you did.. those aren't crap food. I was more explaining why it annoys me when people (in general) say things like well my dog does good on _____

With horses they NEED to have food in their system at all times. They are not designed to be empty lol. So yes your tb will need a lower calorie food than your quarter horse (typically) They still need to eat roughly the same amount volume wise but have different caloric needs.

But with dogs you can just feed less. Their systems are actually made to have periods of 'empty' time. This is why many raw feeders (just not those with toys) will fast their dogs.

So if you wanted to feed something a little higher in calories you would just feed a little less. (perhaps I can't say I noticed feeding much less when I switched from Innova to Evo) If your dog is doing great on a food that is biologically appropriate than leave it be. But if you want to try something else then don't be overly worried about 'normal' protein levels in the grain free kibbles. (Baring health issue that preclude normal protein levels)

That propaganda about the high protein diet was just that -- promulgated originally by mainstream pet food companies.

Happily, it's being debunked by more reliable and ethical sources and discarded by more and more knowledgeable pet owners :)
