She learned how to go under today when he ball sunk to the bottom step.. I'm hoping she'll learn to dive completely.. it'll be cool to see! She only goesto the bottom step for now. =)

Wow, it's not too often you see a dog doing that. Is it okay for them to do that? Wouldn't they swallow a lot of water and get it up their nose and in their lungs?
I've seen dogs on Animal Planet do it all the time. The only thing I've ever been worried about is her getting too much water in her ears.

It'd be the same as her, or any other dog, jumping in the pool after a ball. Same chances of getting water anywhere, I'd think.

I don't believe she tries to breath while under water.

I didn't think she would breath it in, I just thought maybe she could accidentally swallow some. And the chlorine won't hurt her eyes will it? (Just so you know, I'm not trying to be mean or anything, just curious/concerned :) ) And maybe you could put cotten balls in her ears when she swims? I don't know, but any way, the pics are really cute and you can tell she LOVES tennis balls, I beat she'd dive down to the bottom of the ocean to get her ball! :p

LOL! Has she learned to blow bubbles under the water yet? Kharma and Shiva take turns doing that and the other one garfs the bubbles. Dogs and water are so much fun - you never know what they will do next!

They sell ear drying solution that dries the ears without cleaning solution so you're not over cleaning the ears. Its only a problem if it turns into a nasty ear infection

Supposedly it only effects their eyes as much as it effects ours... I'm sure if the dogs eyes get irritated and/or uncomfortable he'll quit diving for a while. Unless of course he's way too ball obsessed.

LOL I like those pics :D

I can't wait till we have a pool. Teddy already enjoys sticking his head under water in the river to pick up random sticks and rocks lol One time he even found a dogs rope toy lol

Cute pics! Mav tried that once or twice but he really doesn't like to do it. I'm sure if it bothered your dog he wouldn't do it. Are any breeds known for diving?

Aww!! Last summer, I'd fill up the kiddie pool with water, and throw treats in. They'd sink to the bottom and the dogs would put their heads under, blow bubbles, and eat the treats. It was really cute.

thats so cute

im sure if your dog was inhaling water he would come up hacking and coughing.

Newfies can dive, im sure its okay as long as your dog seems fine.

I can't see the pics :(

Bodhi's family are all water dogs. They will quite happily spend all day diving in streams and pulling rocks out. They just lie them up on the bank. They go right under water.

They especially like it if you throw one in for them to retrieve - will usually get the right one (well - they try ;) ).

Bodhi hasn't mastered it yet - she will blow bubbles sometimes, but we have lost a few balls and toys to her dropping them in puddles and then not knowing where they have gone :D
