It must be a southern thing because everyone I know plus myself include is either going/or having a Kentucky Derby "party" aka someone cooks a big meal and you go over and watch it with lots of family/friends.

Im pretty excited, we have done this as far back as I can remember. Anyone going/watching the race ??

Always watch it !!! Especially tomorrow with the Queen there !! Gotta see what hat will appear !! We showed our horses there , so it's special to see the grounds . EliN's horse got out one show ( at night with about 6 other horses ) , so wasn't in his stall in the morning !! Was so scary ! We found him and he had a pretty bad leg cut , but was still able to show . As the vet was sewing his cut , he was only commenting on his bowed tendon. He was an old horse who had raced and show jumped , but the tendon was never a problem ! One h*ll of a Children's horse !!! We donated him as a therapy horse as she moved on to Junior division .

Despite being a horse person, I rarely make a point to catch it. The negatives of racing far outweigh the positives to me. Watching most racing makes me sad.

Oh wow Grammy, sounds like a great horse you had! How kind of you to donate him for the kids.

Im like you Grammy, I always root for the horse with the worst odds. Who doesnt like the underdog to sweep the comeptition!

I love at my parents house they have a channel called Horse Racing TV. I love to watch it, and I would love to go someday.

Sunnier , he was quite a horse ! EliN was between her pony and her new unbroken 2 year old . ( She was 13 ) . She had had 4 years of hard work as her pony was a challenge ! We wanted a year or 2 of happy showing for her and we knew this horse ( Hustler ) was beyond his show jumping age and basically was in his stall being wasted . His owner agreed to " sell " him to us for $1.( She had to be owner ) . It took us all fall and winter to get him up to par . That and the next summer he took her to State Championship and then her Green horse was ready to go . We were planning to sell him back for $1. , but by then the owner was enjoying the lack of stable and vet fees etc . So he agreed with our donation . A very happy ending as I think he went 10 more years .

As one radio station said " the most exiciting 2 mintues in sport" its over quick, and there is so much build up, but its worth it.
