Kee tried out sheep again. She didn't necessarily fail her first test, as her evaluator saw some instinct, but she just wasn't confident enough to really take on the sheep for more than a few seconds. She was 5 months old when she first tried. She'll be a year old at the end of the month so I figured now would be a good time to try!

She was AMAZING! Her evaluator said she's probably the best Malinois she has seen on sheep. I hadn't planned on trialing with her but Shelley said she'd definitely do it if Keeva was hers.. she has lots of potential. We're going back to a herding clinic at the end of the month to start some training =D I can't wait! It was great seeing her do so well as something she was born to do!

So now that Keeva has passed her herding instinct certification, she's now "Komplete Khaos HIC" =D

I'm impressed. I've never seen a Malinois (much less a youngster) make the conscious decision to gather the way Keeva did in that video. And she's not trying to get a bite of mutton in any of the pictures. What lines are behind her?

Good, good puppy!

Thanks guys! :D

RD: Her father is Asher OT Vitosha, with Turcodos as her grandpa. Momma is from Windrush.. not exactly strictly working lines, but it seems like a pretty good combo!

WOW, that's amazing! Mals are one of those dogs that you know are historical herders, but you just never think of modern Mals being able to do it...yet here is proof to the contrary!

I can't wait until I can get some extra money (HA!) together so I can take Sawyer down for instinct testing.

Congrats. Looks like Keeva's instincts have kicked in, you are going to have a lot of fun working her in herding.

I was just at an AKC herding trial last weekend, and there was actually a really nice Malinois turnout. We had dogs competing in HT, PT, HSAs, HIAs, HXAs, and HSBs. There weren't nearly as many Mals as there were BCs, or GSDs either (it was a GSD club hosting), but I've seen a nice steady increase in my area in Malinois that are herding. It's nice to see the instincts are still there.

Funny side note, one of the Mali's who competed in HSAs is also named Keeva :)
