Precious' health is concerning me lately. Shedding coat much more excessively than usual, a hot spot (which can be a result of skin infection), and gaining weight. She eats Canidae and it has not done this to her before, so I don't think it's that. Sounds and looks like thyroid. Taking her to work tomorrow to get the hot spot cleaned and also get blood work done to make sure nothing is abnormal. Just letting you all know... Send good thoughts our way!

Our old Sheltie ended up with Hypothyroidism in his old age. He went bald.. yes a BALD Sheltie!! He went on daily medication to try and help him out a bit.

Honestly.. it COULD be hypothyroidism.

I can't remember the distinction between hyper and hypo. I think hyper makes things work overtime and hypo slows things down..

How old is your girl??
Is it possibly that she has developed allergies to something? Dont forget Riot started to go bald on his face when he had an allergic reaction to wheat.

Yea, hyper is overworking and hypo is underworking. It does sound like thyroid problems doesn't it? Dogs that come into work with thyroid problems are always missing/losing hair in patches. Sooo...
She is allergic to corn. That's one main reason they are on Canidae, other than it being good food for a great price. But anyway, I have actually thought about Riot during the course of me noticing her developing problems. I will def. let you know what the bloodwork shows.

Bloodwork came back ok. Don't know why she is losing more hair than usual or gaining weight, but will just keep an eye on her. Thanks for all the support you guys!

Thats such good news that things came back normal!!

Poor girl.. she MAY have developed allergies for the loosing hair and just not gotten as much exercise as before??
