Can a white gsd or boxer have AKC papers?

Reason for asking is that I'v seen alot of dogs advertised that way but I was under the impression that they couldn't...

As far as I know, yes they can as long as both of their parents are registered with AKC and the litter was registered.

Even white dobes (which are a no no) can have papers as long as their parents are registered and have papers.

I see. Well thats an interesting fact. So you can have an AKC dog without it being necessarily being qualified for showing at an AKC show.

AKC papers are basically the same as a car title. It has no bearing on quality what so ever. That rusted out beater in the junk yard has a car title to it, just like Jay Leno's $80 bazillion dollar supercar. Just because something comes with registration papers, doesn't mean it's "better" or "should be bred" or "can be shown", it just says "yup, this dog is most likely purebred." or "yup, it's a car."

AKC papers don't really mean anything except the dog is purebred (probably). It doesn't mean they've been health tested, they're show quality, or anything like that.

Even no no colours which can't be registered in a breed could end up with papers if a breeder is skeazy.. Merle is a no no in Am cockers. So you are a skeazy breeder.. you call the puppy roan.. it gets papers. Cycle continues.

Most AKC registered dogs are not 'show quality'. DQ'd colors can sometimes (and in some breeds fairly often) come out from show quality parents. But you can still show these in non conformation events.

Also, AKC breeders are not always breeding quality dogs or dogs with show standards in mind. Actually most AKC breeders are not quality.

Also, just because a dog is an unacceptable color, doesn't mean it's 'badly bred' either. As I said before, unacceptable colors sometimes come from acceptable colored parents.

White boxers are pretty common, especially when crossing flashy parents.

I've seen so many dogs with akc that don't look well bred that it was starting to confuse me (although I really dont have the best eye for that either). And everybody seems to think that akc papers means value.

However, where I live in being purebred does mean quality so maybe the emphasis on papers. Most people could care less about health testings but take pride in saying oh, he's obviously very pure (meaning no mutt in the blood.) And mutts equal low quality dogs. Not for everyone, of course. But thats the general thoughts in these areas. Which is one of the reasons, I suppose, why the whole designer dog craze hasn't really caught on.
