That swelling in Sawyer's mouth was not an abcess, it's something called an epules (ep-yew-luss) and it needs to be surgically removed so they can do a biopsy on it. Most likely it's benign, but there is a very slight chance it's cancerous. So I need to come up with $300 pretty soon. They'll do a dental cleaning at the same time since he's already under. It's a same-day outpatient type of procedure, but I'm already getting jittery...

He's around 3, no it doesn't bother him in the least and I'm really REALLY hoping that my generally rotten luck will be on my side for once and keep him in the majority of "benign" cases.

Actually at the moment...I'm more worried about how to come with $300. I think I can do it, but I've got to do some more figuring.

I just Googled " Epulis " . I guess it is quite common in older dogs. They're usually benign . Good thing you did take him in . Yes, they did mention bad breath with it . So, it's always wise to check folks .

Poor Sawyer! Fingers firmly crossed. There's a good chance that it's benign, I wouldn't worry too much just yet, Zoom.

    ((hugs))
